Hi everybody, here is my latest video, I haven't sold my 5DMIII yet to buy a Gh4 or A7S like many did, but I might change in 2016 (maybe only).
This is a video about a vegan raw food restaurant in Paris.
I shot it in RAW format, and also shot in MLV for some clients interview but when I check the recording after I was SAD because everything was black after 8 sec, she talked very well for at least 3 minutes and I lost all of it! So no more mlv with audio for me...

It was converted in prores and edited in Premiere Pro and After Effects.

Let me know what you think of it :

And Merry Christmas everyone :))

Share Your Videos / Who wants a massage? "Spa video"
April 28, 2014, 12:15:37 AM
Hi everyone, here is my last video, it's a simple promo video for a Spa, shot like a real estate videos.
I shot everything with a 5D3 in .raw.
WB, contrast and noise reduction was done in ACR via After Effects, exported each clip in prores444 then edited in Premiere.

I hope you like it ^_^

Normally after whatching this you'll want a massage.

Comments & critics are more than welcome.

Bravo! Nice move! Playing .mlv with vlc sounds cool, can't wait.

Does this mean native support in software like adobe suite ?
Nope it doesn't mean that, we all are considered a little group of hackers by Canon and Adobe, there will be no support for mlv in Adobe's softwares, except from 3th party plugin maker maybe. If one day they do support .mlv I'll give away my 5DIII!
My only hope is better Cdng support for Premiere & Speedgrade in the next update.

My ipad already got out of jail :-) so I'll test it soon!
I just saw videos of the android version, it's really cool! It would be even cooler if it was a ML remote.

It's wicked! I bought a lilliput monitor because it wasn't possible back then. The android version sounds cool but I just got me an ipad air so I don't think I'll get an android tablet just for monitoring.
The only problem for monitoring with the ipad is how do you put it on a tripod or a rig..?

Thank you a lot for that release! I'll do the update later though  because of "for serious video use, please consider staying on 1.1.3"
I can't wait for the sensor upgrage! :-)

Hi Duey101
This is something we have talked about.  There is a discussion happening on this thread:
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10401.0
Our only concern is that we would do the work to split it out and no one would actually buy it
Cheers, James

Hi Infinitebuzz, are you giving up the idea of a MLV/RAW plugin ? :(

Hi, you have to use raw2cdng 1.4.8 for .RAW conversion to .DNG with the partymode checked, then it will open fine in premiere. use the version 1.4.9 for MLV support with audio.

Hmm that sounds like a good setup, but I won't be able to afford so many drives to do one Raid. Is Raid 0 that unreliable? I currently have 5 external hard drives (I like to backup my backups  :D)

It not that it's unreliable, it just that if one of the drives crashes you won't be able to recover any data :O so that's why it important to have another drive to backup the raid0.

Any thoughts on system load implications of a native Raw workflow?
What kind of specs are we talking for realtime playback with and without CUDA/openCL?

Obviously CPU is important, at least 16gb of ram, a cuda card for premiere, but the most important thing I think is the hard drives, you need to set them well, if you have 4 of them it'd be great.
1 ssd for system and apps
1 raid0 of many hdd would be great for footage.
1 for media cache, preview files, windows paging file.
1 for export.
If all are ssd at least you know there mignt not be bottleneck of data happening. But of course it's expensive :O

All this sound great, it will put an end to all questions about which workflow is the best!
Shoot RAW --> Edit RAW --> Color RAW --> Export
No more dng, dpx or prores etc.. Just having .raw and .mlv will save us a lot of space! Thanks for making this happen :)

Hi Tony,
I answer for myself, and I think like you that the proxies are not that important, I myself don't use them, my PC is something like 3 years old now and it can play smoothly the dng inside Premiere with no problem, and if it start going slow because of effects and stuff I can always reduce the playback quality for better playback, and I think it goes for any NLE as long as you got fast enough hard driveS (always use many drives for editing not just one) and a good graphic card.
I used to actually make .dpx too from the mlv dng (before chmee's app 1.4.9) but with after effects. Making it with xnview or xconvert seems faster but no more ACR then.

We are also exploring the Premiere dialog option for all our raw types, including ML.

+1 buyer for that plugin with at least exposure control, white balance, highlight & shadow.

If it is possible for you to add this controls, would the settings stay there if we use directlink to Speedgrade for fine tuning color correction?

One other great feature would be synced audio with mlv+sound, (or maybe it does that already? I didn't try the demo so I don't know).

Patiently waiting with credit card.

the whole dng, proxie, ae, acr workflow is worthless!!
I agree with you, especially if there is a way to access "source settings" in Premiere.
But if you take away the proxie stuff, then we could just use chmee's app? The only stuff that we would want from your app is the DNG compression.

I think that to make your app even better with the future new UI, you should add:
- drag n drop (like in Chmee's app)
- thumbnail view of all the footage in the window (like MLVBrowserSharp)
- abillity to play from the app (MLVViewSharp)
- abillity to do color ACR stuff before exporting the DNG or proxie (dreamy feature :) like in the Mac app Cliphouse http://pomfort.com/cliphouse/

I hope I don't sound too crazy... but like many of us, I hope we'll get there someday! Thanx to all the devs involved ^_^.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: The CinemaDNG Discussion
February 14, 2014, 08:06:18 AM
I don't think it is really sensor problem even though I don't know anything about it, but in my case I got those pixel bug on many of my MLV with sound footage I had to use ACR to make them got away and convert my dng in AE (but it didn't work out with all my footage).
The point is I never had those bad pixel with Raw_rec, so I'm sticking with it for now.

General Chat / Re: Upgrade to 5D MKIII from 6D?
February 13, 2014, 04:01:14 PM
Hi there, I was in the same situation last summer, I got the 6D for few months and played with RAW, it was cool but I wanted more!
What made me upgrade :
- 1080p raw video (or more with x5)
- no moire like on the 6D
- 61 focus points
- 5DIII is one of the main body of ML development when it comes to new stuff!

Here is a video I made last summer before getting the 5D, stuff in the conclusion might not be true now, like the audio stuff.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: The CinemaDNG Discussion
February 13, 2014, 12:03:54 PM
Hi there, I don't know if I understood correctly but on the magic lantern facebook page it says :
"we've fix pink frame on the 5DIII and 60D"
Does it mean that RAW files coming from the 5DIII won't need the "partymode" anymore ?

I too have been searching for an answer to this problem.  All of the my DNG's that come from Raw2DNG are completely overlayed with pink.
use the converter of Chmee, http://www.phreekz.de/wordpress/2013/06/magiclantern-raw2cdng-cinema-dng/  version 1.4.9
it has a partymode checkbox which remove the pink cast that appear in Premiere. (maybe works for Resolve too...)

I don't think it is really, but if you could try with sound it'll be great. Another question, do you have aero enabled?
I just tried mlv with sound and it worked. Yes I have aero activated.

@Tony: my os : win7 64bit
MLV without sound.
