Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: raw2mlv processing
« on: November 13, 2019, 05:34:31 PM »
BIOS/UEFI should be unrelated!
My recommendation: Check virus/internet protection software first and make sure it is not blocking. Run exe from command line and check for log entries (for
virus/internet protection and Windows event logs, too).
If problem persists I would recommend to enter a Teamviewer session with Process Monitor (Sysinternals/Microsoft) logging raw2mlv activities.

Ingenuous question: what may happen if I try to install the release for 700D on my 750D?  :D

Your doorbell will ring and you'll get full refund for all STEM classes you ever took. Without interest.

I will try. Where do I find cr2hdr again?

Not sure ...

Also where was the dcraw Windows porter, was it on this forum?

I found his name and link as first item in Dave Coffin's dcraw page FAQ section:
Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have a C compiler. Could you send me an executable?
    Sergio Namias has built some current Windows EXE files here. Dcraw has also been ported to Amiga, MorphOS, BeOS, OS/2, and RISC OS.
Link is dead. This is latest Wayback Maschine backup:

Offtopic: Can you give cr2hdr binaries the same medicine? Just asking ...
And dcraw's Windows porter never made it to 9.28 and seems to be offline ...

According to dcraw's Windows porter it just needed to be compiled with Visual Studio for wildcard support.

You did nothing wrong. This error message is a long time "feature" within ML. As long as this persists you may have a look at my signature.

How does one get mesc's CA addon to work in linux?

My weapon of choice as a begginer in filmaking and the Magic Lantern ecosystem is the 1100d, and, as you can imagine, getting some usable raw video out of this camera has been a (delightful) challenge by itself.

I've been searching this thread for other matters of the raw workflow, but got hung up on the magical CA slidders. How can a linux novice get them in mlv app?

Thank you for any clarifications.

Someone able to help this guy? His/her post got lost (somehow) during confirmation period.

Shoot preparation / Re: Infinite focus in low light shooting

If you are using a lens reporting focus distance you get a screen like this

with all informations you need at the bottom: Distance and DOF. Ignore "This feature only works in LiveView". This refers to highlighted menu item. Lookup "Hyperfocal Distance" if needed.
If your lens does not support this:
Measure or estimate distance and get yourself an oldfashioned focus distance card or an app for DOF calculation.

Raw Video / Re: The RAW videos I shot are invisble on my memory card
« on: November 12, 2019, 04:27:32 PM »
You can't transfer MLV files via USB. Canon doesn't offer that option. Period.
- Complicated way around: Use a LUA_fix build and rename MLV (M00, M01, ..) to MOV (or another file supported by Canon) and transfer them via USB.
- Just use a decent cardreader.

Second method's pros:
- It's faster. Depending on card type you are not limited to below 20 MByte/s transfer rate but somewhere > 100 MByte/s.
- As long as you are not using wall plugged power supplies: It doesn't drain your battery during transfer.
Cons: You need an additional device.

Some decent cardreaders were reviewed here:
I can recommend Kingston FCR-HS4.

You can. Install an Windows 10 evaluation version inside a virtual machine.

Hmh ... found this. Any issue with MLV?
Big bummer. The RED patent also poses a threat to MagicLantern as MLV is compressed RAW video.

Thanks for another useful link, Luther!
I leave it to Ilia to decide if it is worth the effort and/or the direction he wants to take. (IANAP)

Remove battery, remove card.
Insert battery but *do not* insert card.
Startup cam and report status.
Remove battery.

Requires an MLV codec written for Windows.
Same problem with CR3 in Windows. Canon doesn't provide any either.

Feature Requests / Re: Record Delay (more than 10 seconds!)
« on: November 05, 2019, 07:25:03 PM »
Don't be frightened to do it yourself (I bet you will be anyway)!

There are 2 options:
1) Setup a development environment and edit source mlv_rec.c according to your needs. Then build your own ML. You will find the instructions and scripts written by dfort and others easy to follow.
Code: [Select]
case 3:
            start_delay = 10; break;
            start_delay= 0; break;
Code: [Select]
case 3:
            start_delay = 10; break;
case 4:
            start_delay = 37; break
            start_delay= 0; break;
37 is just an example, do as you like.

2. Load, restart and start "Movie Delayed Start" from Scripts tab.
Then switch to Movie tab where you will find an entry "Delayed start" with "Delay Amount" from 0s to 10 min. Don't forget to check "Stop after"!

PS: Next time asking for a feature you should first check if there is a script for it. If there is you have to explain why it doesn't fit your needs.
Don't forget to mention the build you want to be changed.
Don't forget to mention the tab, module (if any), menu item, submenu item  you want to have changed. There is a ton of menu items around and sometimes they sound pretty similiar and we may have no idea what you are talking about.

General Help Q&A / Re: IQ: EOS M or 5Diii?

Reproducable facts, samples: None.
Give or EOT (for me)
Witness protection? This is worse than esoteric! Did you have asked him by PN or other channels if he has a problem to participate in this thread and back his opinion with samples and answer follow-up questions? Because that's what I do if I quoted someone and been questioned about it but unwilliing/unable to speak in quoted person's name. Been there, done that.

First do sanity checks for your card:
Use a decent cardreader and benchmark tools like CrystalDiskMark (Windows) or Blackmagic Disk Speed Test (macOS) to check sequential write speed matches card's spec. Flash fraud is quite common!

If card works fine you may want to reduce processor overhead by switching to greyscale LV. Not loading additional modules is recommended.
Which module do you use? mlv_lite or mlv_rec?

Then type

Welcome! And SCNR!

Modules tab
Because of memory management issues some features are designed to be loaded this way.

"Lacklustre" issues in non-crop mode but not in crop mode? Really?
Anything substantial (samples) available backing this claim?

IMO this thread reached esoteric level like some audiophile discussions.
Starting with a quote from memory of an unidentifiable source claiming something unverifiable by facts (because absence of)

Your last sentence: Most likely (judged by the way this thread developed.)
