re the sound - really nice overall but problem with headphone monitoring.

I'm using the canon cable spliced with a 3.5mm female headphone jack socket and this function is great.

The problem is that turning the camera on again with the mini - usb canon lead plugged in gives a blank screen.
The only way out is to remove the min-usb, switch headphone monitoring off then on again and replug the mini-usb - at which point it works great again.
Just a minor point.

Cheers!

Really nice though 1% so cheers!
I was really just pointing out the need to remove the usb plug and switch off then on the headphone monitoring on the 7D.
Really nice though!

Having spliced my canon mini-usb to a female 3.5mm stereo jack over the holidays, I was a bit shocked to see the final nightly from 1% for 2013 had lost all the audio controls!

But over the moon that they're back with today's offering! :-)

Seems to work well, with the only problem being a blank screen when starting up with the mini-usb plugged in.

So far the solution seems to be unplugging it then switching the headphone monitoring off then on again in the audio ML menu.

After that, plugging back in it all seems to work well :D.

Cheers for this!

Ha!
Just noticed:
http://tl.bot-fly.com
is back up so got today's from there.

Headphone monitoring on the 7D :-)

One slight bug - and I know this probably isn't the place for it but thought I may as well add it to this post -

When switching on with the mini usb plugged in the screen is blank.
The only way I have managed to get round this is by unplugging it so the screen comes back on then bringing up the ML audio menu and toggling Headphone Monitoring off and then on again, then replugging the mini usb.

Otherwise seems to work great!

Cheers!

Kind of answering myself here as  having my chosen build on the card already allows EOSCard to make the card bootable and all good!

Well, nearly........

During the break I decided to splice my usb Canon mini cable with a female 3.5mm jack to allow for headphone monitoring.

The latest build here:
http://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/

seems to have all audio menus disabled,
so I reverted to an earlier build where the options were available,
but.....

When I plug in the mini usb the screen goes blank, no matter what settings I change in the audio menu.

From trying to find an answer I see that One Percent has posted over on:
https://bitbucket.org/OtherOnePercent/tragic-lantern-6d/commits/all

re: "7D audio seems mostly working."
and more recently:
"Solved 7D muting external audio. It was the wind filters.. now meters on all the time without filter_rec knock on wood"

I'm presuming these are builds in progress, but how can I try them?
I can't see any downloads related to the specific entries.

Sorry if I'm being a bit dim here.

Could someone please explain how I can try these?

Many thanks all!

Thanks Renato.
The problem I'm having with EOSCard is that it says it's downloading "ML_britom_1_29_Sep_2013.zip" but then just hangs.
Did you mean I can just ignore this function and just check the EOS_DEVELOP and BOOTDISK boxes and click save to make the card bootable?
Thanks.

Just trying to format my cards with EOSCard 1.40 for my 7D and the pots in progress option isn't downloading.
I've switched off all firewalls, etc but it just hangs.
If I try the other cameras on the dropdown they work - just not the 7D?

Any ideas please?

Is there a way to point it to a pre-downloaded version?

Cheers all and Happy New Year!

Nice!
Thanks again Walter!

So.... no way to check nightly builds right now?
#10
Ah...
I wondered as I thought that was the page I used before.
I only get "tl.bot-fly.com will be down while hosting figures stuff out. ETA is before 2014."
I take it "hidden" means a direct link/path is needed and you're not at liberty to post it here?

Thanks.
#11
Thanks Walter - that's great!

Any idea where the nightly builds for the 7D have gone?

Thanks again!

Thanks again (late I know but better than never!) Pileot for the advice!

Maybe being stupid here but I haven't had time to tinker for a while, and turns out I didn't bookmark the 7D nightly build module page - can anyone point me that way please?

Also, been doing some fiddling with the Dual exposure module and getting some great results - but admittedly only after a week of reinstalling PS on 2 machines as I thought there was something wrong with it's handling of CR2s - of course I just hadn't converted from the DUAL to DNG format - Doh!

So question #2 is - where can I read up on the ETTR module?
I see it referenced (especially re the DUAL module - which is my main reason for wanting to try it) but can't find any documentation in the FAQ, User Guide or via searching the forum.

Anyone got a link to a description of the basic setup and use of this module please?

Many thanks again!

Cheers!

Thanks Pileot!

I have just cleared all my cards from filming last Friday and was using just one to check the new build with - I won't need it seriously until January so plenty of time to play around with new features.

My query was that after making all the cards bootable using EOScard do I

1) still need to copy the 7dbooton.fir file onto all other cards?

2) do I need to replace the 7D_203.fir and autoexec files that EOScard created with those from the nightly build or do I just need to replace the ML folder?

3) if I am replacing the ML folder are there only certain folders within it that need replacing?

I guess it may just be the modules folder? - Is this correct?

Or are there others that would need replacing too?
I ask this because after setting up my settings on one card I'd really like to copy my settings across to the other cards. I'm presuming this is only dependent on the settings folder? - Is this correct?

4) ...and finally,  after fiddlling with various aspects of the new build I'm finding some new files in the card's root directory - namely "ASSERT00, ROM0, ROM1, VRAM0.422, VRAM0" - are these important files to copy across to other cards to maintain settings or just temp/scratch files of some sort?

I'm hoping I'm not revisiting too many already answered questions here - if so I apologise as I have read through a LOT of pages of all the related threads.

Perhaps I should move this to a new thread entitled something like "Copying settings between CF cards"?

Many thanks for all your help and this excellent project!

Cheers!

Hi all

Loving the bootloading version after using alpha 1 and 2 from the cards for a while!

Just a couple of questions that I can't see answered anywhere:

1)
After creating the CF card with the instructions given and loading onto my camera I presume I need to do the same with my other cards, yes?
Or can I just copy files and folders from one to another?
And when I have my settings saved and working as I like them on the first card how do I copy these across to the subsequent ones?
Just guessing but do I just copy the "settings" folder?

2)
I've been trying out the new builds and just copying the whole ML folder to my already bootable CF card - do I need to do this or can I just copy specific files and folders across?
Obviously I am changing the settings by doing this so they revert to default.
Again, would I just need to copy across the modules folder or do I need more to benefit from the latest build?

Many thanks for all this!
Cheers!

Thanks for that!
I've just replaced the ML folder on my CF card with the one from the new build - is this the correct procedure?
Thanks again!

Hi all
Really excited about some of the new developments here!

Been using the alpha for a while shooting some bits at a mates club every couple of months and just checked here the other day before their Halloween do.
Being kind of busy with other stuff, I read about the bootloading version but decided to go with what I already had working rather than risking something new before trying it out.

Now that's done I've managed to use the EOScard utility to bootload one card - seems to work great.
The new version seems to download all the latest modules too - is that right?
All the modules seem to be there and their info screens when I press "Q" are all saying 2013-09-25 or dates close to that.
Do I therefore need to look for newer builds/releases to try out new features or does the download function for EOScard deliver the most recent automatically?

On another note I read that you can't just copy files from one card to your others but need to make the card "bootable" using EOScard.
Now, previously with the non bootable version this was what I did after setting everything the way I liked I just copied to my other cards.
Therefore, is it now possible to copy my specific settings from a working, setup the way I like it, bootable card to my pc, then make bootable my other cards with EOScard, and then copy my specific settings back across from my pc?

Been reading through a bunch of recent posts so sorry if this has already been covered and I missed it!

And finally - and this is just a wishlist item and I don't know if it is even possible - but some of the stuff you guys have already managed is pretty amazing so I figured I'd ask:
One problem I have is with overheating when shooting for too long. The little red thermostat warning comes on and I know I'm on thin ice!
Once I pushed it as what was happening in front of the lens was amazing and I very nearly got everything but the camera shut itself down before doing itself permanent damage.
It happened again the other night as I was filming too much in a row, so I shut down for a bit and unfortunately missed a really good performance.
What I'm wondering is if there might be some way of introducing a temperature meter of some kind?
Doesn't have to be hyper accurate, just something that reminds me "better think about giving it a rest soon" before it gets to the red flashing symbol and I know I'm already in the danger zone.
Just like a battery percentage type meter maybe?

Just a thought as that would be really handy for me.
Anyone else think this would be useful?

Cheers for all the hard work anyway!

It will be exciting to use the new functionality. The first alpha already changed my way of filming with the 7D.

Mine too! :-)
This Christmas is looking like being a little gloomy (for various reasons) but this is the first thing to get me excited!
Cheers!

After a really busy week I've finally had the chance to properly check my footage from last Friday and I must say I'm really happy with it overall!
So cheers and you now have a donation from me.
Now if by any chance you can get another alpha out by Christmas that includes the FPS modifier that would rally help me out for my mates' next club he wants me to shoot on the 28th!
Either way,
Cheers!

Successfully used the alpha on Friday night videoing my friends' club for a promo.

The Focus peaks were extremely useful in a low light club situation and I found it easier to use in grayscale mode with the peak colour set to yellow. Last time I filmed a club with the 7D the focus was a bit hit and miss but this has really changed the results!

I will be donating in the next couple of days once I've been to the bank as this is a brilliant and well thought out firmware in my opinion - many thanks!

My only request (right now) from a video standpoint (as opposed to stills) woud be for some way of changing the frame rate for 1280 by 780 from 50 to 25.
I was carrying a lot with me on Friday so didn't bring my own laptop for downoading and the one I was told I could use ended up being used for a ticket scanner at the club entrance so I had to be very choosey as to what I did actually shoot as i only had 3 CF cards with me.
Considering this club footage is intended mainly for the web I don't really need 50fps and would much rather have the option of doubling my card usage in this scenario.

But otherwise brilliant!
Many thanks!

Really impressed so far!
Just one problem in Live view I keep getting the little temperature icon warning.
This is happening when I just switched on so seems unlikely to be a real temp issue.
Is there a way to disable this?

Apologies if this has already been covered but i'm still making my way through these posts and other info, hoping to use this when filming for a friend tomorrow.

Thanks for all this!
Cheers!
