Tragic Lantern / Re: Tragic Lantern for EOS M

I have a question:

Every time I use the ML to do do regular video recording, when I hit the red movie record button.  The screen tells me that Audio is disabled.  Is there a way to un-disable it - I'm not shooting Raw?  I'm just trying out different types like using the Anamorphic option since I have anamorphic projection lens and wanted to do some widescreen stuff.  Also when I try the Anamorphic, and then hit record with the audio disabled (I don't understand), my filming gets out of whack, e.g.: it shoots a frame a sec.

Is there a way to remedy this?

P.S.: when doing regular movie recording, it would say "Sound disabled"

I would guess that you have "FPS Override" turned on, which will automatically disable sound in any mode.  Make sure that is off if you want sound, even when recording Canon h264.

Does that fix it for you?

Share Your Videos / 5D Mark 3 RAW at Disneyland
May 24, 2013, 10:15:15 AM
Went to Disneyland yesterday and brought my camera.  I've been playing around with the RAW features for about a week now and thought I'd share some footage.

None of the shots have any effects added to them at all.  Obviously I had to adjust some things in ACR, but it almost always consisted of lowering the tint and exposure and raising the shadows.  That's about all.   In a few of the dusk shots I pumped up the saturation of the blues and purples to see how much color was there.  A LOT OF COLOR WAS THERE.

Obviously the footage isn't great as far as "technicals" (some shots are shaky, a couple might even be out of focus), but I tried to capture some shots that I thought would be impossible with the limited DR of Canon's internal codecs.

Here is something that I found that I thought I would share:  If you shoot with a slightly lower resolution than 2K but stretch the image in Photoshop, it's pretty much lossless to my eye.   I remember reading that only Photoshop reads the DNG's as 240ppi, while After Effects and Premiere don't.  I think this might be why they uprez so well.  Most of these shots were 1920 by 720, but some of them were slightly different on either side.  The shots that were lower resolution match the other shots VERY well to me.

My workflow is essentially to get the DNG's, bring them all into Photoshop, use ACR to make them look better, export the files to TIFS and bring them into Premiere to edit.  Of course Youtube looks terrible, but enjoy!

Long time since my last post, but I've been experimenting with all this RAW stuff and it's obviously incredible.  I shot about 30 gigs of stuff today, so I'm gonna spend the next couple hours seeing how beautiful it is tonight.  I've been pretty lucky in the 4 or 5 builds I've installed.  No real problems - other than a few hiccups people have mentioned.   I have the May 22nd build on there now, and here are a few things I've noticed (that don't bother me, but might be useful to know):

1.  When hitting the "Magnify" button, the screen turns pink and temporarily freezes 95% of the time.  Only once or twice did it not turn pink and noisy for a few seconds.  It almost always clears up after about 1.5 - 2 seconds.  This does not happen when going from 5x --> 10x, or from 10x --> 1X.   Only from the initial first zoom.

2.  Occasionally, after the pink "jam" screen vanishes, there will be vertical green/pink lines left over that take about 3 or 4 seconds to slowly fade away - always near the center/right of the frame.   It's never frozen my camera or caused a problem.  It does slightly worry me, but I'm sure it's fine.

3.  As others have mentioned, the sound is disabled when you turn off raw mode and try to record h.264 video.  I think this might be a feature though, and I apologize for not researching more.  I've not searched the forums for a fix because it doesn't affect me at all.  I wasn't shooting audio today so I didn't care.

Besides that, everything has been going great.  This is really a game changer.  I have a SanDisk 60MB/sec, a G-Monster 50MB/sec, and a 64GB 1000x Komputer Bay that I lent to a friend who wanted to install this before me that I'm getting back Friday.  I'll be doing a lot of tests with that bad boy over the weekend - I'll post back here when I finish.

General Development / 5D Mark 3 Help / Tester
March 07, 2013, 01:47:18 AM
You know - I've never thought this would help - but just to throw it out there - I own a Mark 3 and I'd be happy to help in any way if I could?  I've run the Alpha 2 for a while now (it's awesome), but if you guys need me to do something, I can try it out.  As long as it's pretty risk-free?

Or is that the rub?  That it's not risk-free?  Either way.  Someone let me know how I can help with my camera and I'll try my best.

Now that I am back from travel I will test it more accurately than I was able on tour.
I also had no green bars on magic zoom, peaking causes a red bar on the left of the screen.
I will film today and see what comes next.
Pretty stable by the way!! I remember some troubles with the first 550 versions, really good job, I really appreciate that!
Oh- when I did th card benchmark the cam turned off after a while an I had to wake it up, there was no text about the speed. Maybe I did something wrong, check it again later

Alpha 2 is awesome, can't imagine needing anything else out of this camera (aside from maybe higher bitrates or mjpeg codecs, but I know this is a hail mary).  All of the features seem to work for me except the "magic zoom" green bars.  Would be awesome to have them, but with focus peaking and magic zoom both enabled it's easy to switch between the two and utilize them individually.  Really great work here.

I like that it doesn't autoload too by the way.  It makes me feel like it's less dangerous.  If possible, I would love to never have to autoload.  Even in an "official" release.  I can't believe Canon doesn't pay you guys.   Absurd.  I'm emailing them now.
