General Chat / Re: Apertus Axiom Beta
« on: September 29, 2014, 09:35:32 AM »
A friend of mine and I have both backed an Axiom Beta camera in the campaign.

I expect to be able to help a lot with testing. I have been a fan of Magic Lantern for years and I am very pleased to hear that these two great projects are joining forces!

@Sebastian: Regarding the max fps, is the Axiom's max 60fps out a limitation of the HDMI controller only? In other words, would adding another IO-shield with for instance SDI be an option to reach higher framerate output? Or is the imaging pipeline on Zedboard a limiting factor in this too, capped at 60fps?

Here is something I shot recently using ML 7D RAW

Wow, excellent! Lovely play of light and dark shadows. I love it.

But, 8mm is a fisheye, the widest non-fisheye is the 14mm full-frame lense, which I heard from rumor.

Do not rule out the mighty Canon EF-S 10-22! It's perfectly fine for the 7D. It's one of my most appreciated UWA (not fish eye) lenses.  ;) Millimeters are the same for crop and FF. And 4 mm is a lot on the wide end.

Edit: actually, before ML it was the main reason why my 7D was still around!

download the following two files:  (right klick and save link)

find those two files in the ML folder on your CF card and replace them.

you will find the burst in the "shoot" tab.

good luck

Did that, and now the option is there! Hurray! :-)

Thanks mate.

I don't see on the shot menu the silence shot option...

dual iso and file man modules run OK without err
Me neither... exact same results!
EOScard1.3.6 crashes (with some date convert error).
Then I tried with EOScard1.3.5, this let my 7D autoboot ML okay, but there is no Shoot > Silent Shooting option.
I copied the files from manually to the root of the card. No silent shooting option.

There are three modules on the card in ML/MODULES, but only two are listed in ML after booting ( and, not 7D_203.sym).

if that would be the generic 7D user opinion ...

It is not.

Sorry, I have been away for a couple of days and I see a lot has already been said in this regard. But I need to say this and after that I'll be quiet again until I have something useful to contribute. I do not wish to be part of a group that makes complaints on behalf of 'all 7D users' because clearly they are not speaking for me. And I see not for a lot of other users too. There are unfortunately some loud individuals making a lot of fuzz, spoiling it for the developers and the patient, silent user group.

I am very happy with the 7D alpha 2, especially when looking back where we came from. The magic zoom is a godsend when working with fast primes. It is stable enough. Having to manually load it after every reboot is just a minor inconvenience.

Of course, I am as enthusiastic and anxious as anyone else to see new developments like RAW video of the newer Canons ported to the 7D too. But I am aware that the chance for this to happen is actually very small. I am glad that nowadays we at least have a functional alpha version for the 7D. A few years ago, the future did not look so promising. Look were ML is now. In the end there is just only one word fitting enough: THANKS!

And back to my lurking mode again...

I ran into two small things.

1) Does anyone else have trouble disabling the white graph that looks a bit like an exposure history graph? At least that's what I think it is, it's the little white graph that is refreshing slowly from the right and placed on the bottom right. Or is it a CPU load graph? This one:

I can reproduce it like this:
- a fresh and clean install of ML
- hit trash can, disable all overlays individually except magic zoom (and Global Draw is on, of course)
- hit Live View and the white graph is still there

- in Display > Advanced Settings change the screen mode to '16:10 HDMI', the graph is gone.
- same for all other screen modes except '4:3 Movie'
- change back to screen mode '4:3 Movie', and the white graph is back again.

2) I would have liked to include a few screenshots, but the screenshot action does not seem to work right for me. I selected the 'Screenshot - 10s' option in the Debug menu, pressed Set, browsed to the settings page I wanted to take a screenshot from and expected it to take a screenshot after 10 secs and save it on the CF card. After about two or three seconds the camera bleeped and the red 'writing to card' LED lit up for a moment. There was no blinking each second to indicate a countdown.

After a few attempts I found several screenshots on the card with file dates that correspond to the time of testing, but they are all named TEST.BMP (yes, each one). Next to them were some VRAMX.422 files with the liveview images. The bmp's all contain exactly the same screenshot taken from the Debug menu, like this:

The YUV 422 images all seem okay though, after converting them (using this converter).

Maybe I am doing something wrong, or is the screenshot mechanism not yet ready for the 7D? What is the recommended procedure?

That is truly one of the ML surprises that one could have only dreamt of!  :o

I use, primarily, old manual lenses so the focus peaking/trap is invaluable to my dodgy old eyes, especially when using fast glass like the Nikon 50/1.2
That's exactly why I bought a SmallHD DP4 field monitor last month, it has very good focus assist and peaking modes. Who would have known my 7D would be able to do that in the near future too!

Donated again. Thanks for the great weekend coming up, I will be testing ML. :)
