I want to bump this topic - was discussing this with someone and we thought this would be extremely useful for hyperlapsing.

My apologies, I didn't notice the DONE edit by a1ex.

That's not what I'm asking. But yes, I don't want to spend money on buying a recorder.

General Help Q&A / Record WAV only
August 21, 2013, 06:25:58 AM
Is it possible to only record WAV? I'm shooting on RED Epic for a project but due to Varispeed there will be no audio available. I do not own a audio recorder and to keep the budget down I thought of recording audio into a 5Dmk3 instead which should support "timecode" - even with drift in mind it should be very easy to sync in post.

If not possible - I could record at a very low resolution (24fps to keep audio in sync) to keep the filesize down, correct?

As a last resort I could go out and rent a Zoom H4N - This should also have an internal clock with the "recording time" as a timecode.

Can anyone tell me if I'm being stupid or if it's actually do-able?

(This is to record interviews at a music event - crystal clear audio is not expected and a DSLR audio should be good enough, right?)

Yes, turn the camera upside down ;)

That would mean I'm litterally recording an upside down picture, I'm not sure that's the desired solution. :P

Guess I'm going to have to figure out how to rig my monitor another way then.

I've run into a problem and I'm not sure if I'm misunderstanding the purpose of a feature.

I've rigged my monitor upside down (easier/cleaner look) and I've enabled the UPSIDE DOWN feature in ML. The UI is readable and flipped perfectly. The LiveView feed is still upside down though, any way to fix this?

Excellent news Alex!

I'm a very big fan of keeping ML on a single CF card and using my SD card collection for storage. I'm using a 5Dmk3 and a T3i and it's a pain when I once again forget that formatting the card on my mk3 also removes ML.

I know there are many people using multiple cameras and don't want to buy another set of cards for each camera while it's perfectly possible to share the cards between them.

SD cards are much cheaper than CF cards while the camera does not utilise the full advantage of CF cards anyway.

Keep it up!
