Title: 1920 X 800, RAW 5d3, theatrical release
Post by: anandkamal on January 15, 2014, 10:55:39 PM
Hi, I plan for an independent film with canon 5d3 and magic lantern RAW. For better flow, I wish to shoot at the cinemascope (2.4:1) mode approximately 1920 X 800. Will I have any problem while creating the digital cinema package for theatrical release? Any one dimension, either 2048 or 858 should be met for creating a DCP. In canon's cinemascope format, 1920X800, i could not meet both dimension. But DCP software could make it compatible. Any suggestions? I am a newbie, pardon my misunderstanding abt the subject. Thanks.

You will just need to upscale your footage a little bit, 106.7%. That would give you 2048x854, looks like the DCP you are going with is expecting a 2.39 aspect rather than 2.4. This is a very small upscale and should still look great. You could shoot 2048 in crop mode but I personally don't like shooting that way. Good luck.
