Title: [INVALID] 5Dm3 1280p without chroma subsampling
Post by: Cyberfit on October 24, 2013, 03:12:49 AM
Given that the CMOS sensor of the 5Dm3 is 5760×3840, it may be technically possible to downsample it to 1920x1280 by simply leaving out every third line and row of pixels.

I guess this might produce potentially weird results for certain scenarios. But it could also help get rid of some of the softness of 5D video, no?

May be worth a setting at least.

Well... so do you think it is managed somehow differently actually?

"The 21 megapixel sensor is downsampled to HD resolution by only using every third line and 4:2:0 chroma subsampling, leading to concern about Moiré patterns in recorded video."

I suppose they have good reasons for applying a 4:2:0 on top of it, or they wouldn't.
