Title: 5D III Display Autofocus Case Setting on Flex Info Layover
Post by: Stedda on September 26, 2013, 01:41:21 PM
I've not seen this asked in any form over the years I've been here...

Is it possible to read from Canon code Autofocus details/settings and then display this info on the Flex Info layover? Mainly autofocus case settings on 5D III. Without scrolling halfway through the Canon menu I never know where I had left it last. Just looking for a quick indicator if possible.

Thank You for your time!

Yes. The only difficulty:

1) one has to learn how to use AF on 5D3 (I gave up* and got a manual lens)

2) armed with that knowledge, one has to find the relevant properties, see what they do, which one represent each setting, what possible values it has, and print that on the screen.

* A few months ago I took some group picture with 5D3 and 50/1.8, full sunlight, and some of them came out completely out of focus. Don't remember the exact settings, but one of the OOF pics shows Auto, f/5.6, Multi-point AF, AI Focus AF in EXIF. For that scene I'm sure any compact camera would have zero trouble focusing. Since then I stopped using AF and got a Samyang 35/1.4. With DIGIC peaking and 10x zoom on half-shutter I know exactly where the focus point is.

Ok thanks for your answer. There are a ton of different options for focus and at times I do get some OOF shots I just can't manually focus fast enough to shot what I want. I use a modified Case 4 in AI Servo back button focusing 80% of the time and found it pretty reliable.

Anywho thanks for looking!
