Title: RAW hacking on Nikon cameras
Post by: Biggles1 on September 17, 2013, 05:57:39 AM

Correction: Vitaly is actually the one working on this. He's famous for his GH2 hack. This isn't the Magic Lantern team.

Second Correction: We originally were told by Reddit that Vitality created the hack. They were incorrect, and we were incorrect in our reporting. The real source is Simeon Pilgrim and talks about the project here and here.

Canon DSLRs have been stealing lots of the spotlight recently with the hacked 5D cameras. Magic Lantern, who did the hacks, are now stating that Nikon's cameras are being hacked now. Mitch from Planet 5D has seen an early sample from a D700–but it's only recording around 1.5 frames per second. That's essentially a time lapse. However, the D7000 can record at 24p.

There are loads of Nikon cinematographers, and we'd be really interested to see just what happens in the HDSLR video game now.

Sample video is after the jump.

Thinly disguised Nikon versus Canon BS about how Nikon will kick Canons ass now raw video is discovered, meh old news.

So here's my Nikon vs Canon trolling BS. Cinematographers and Nikon in the same sentance, really? As an aside the term DP gets so overused as well equating to 'the guy whos camera it is'. :-)

Registration distance has screwed Nikon for a long time and continues to do so, since Nikon have no video camera product line other than DSLR why don't Nikon provide camera raw video in forth coming product line?

This is old news friend (severall months old..), and too much misinformation in your post, how did you manage to get everything wrong, seriously? Are you a journalist? :)
Simeon and their team are trying their best @ nikonhacker.com, I wish them the best.

Nikon relesases firmware rare so do the hackers work so slow...
But it is probably worth the efforts coz gives much better RAW files than the canon is ever able to.

Shouldn't this thread just be closed before it quickly deteriorates into 12-year olds pointing fingers at each other, shouting from the top of their lungs about what their favorite playtoy of the week is?

What? Why canons? Did canon pay anything to magic lantern to make them canonists? No...
So they can work to do Nikon magic lantern as well. Why not?

because they've already said multiple times they're not interested in helping with Nikon Hacking. They own Canon cameras and they're not for hire.

Their passion lies with hacking Canon equipment...
