Just wondering what the experience has been for you fellow OSX users?
When I use RAWMagic, it converts my .raw into a folder of DNG files.
RAWMagic processes very fast.
I can preview these files DNG in finder, though they have a magenta cast.
They open fine in ACR.
When I use raw2dng, it is slower than RAWMagic.
It outputs DNG files which I cannot preview in Finder. It also outputs a .mov file.
Are people having the same experience with these apps?
Are there any better alternatives for RAW>DNG conversion on OSX?
Thanks
RAWMagic is what I've been using for a long time and I've never had any problems with it. It's crazy fast at converting and it's also very stable. I've never had any issue with it not recognizing footage, camera type, resolution or even converting those pesky files cut short by running out of space on my card.
raw2dng on the other hand one time completely deleted my footage, so that was the end of me using it although I might have to revisit it if RAWMagic doesn't get an update to read .mlv files soon.
thanks
Try out son of a batch. Also very good converter
Cheers, I'm starting to get my head around all this.
I guess we have to go through the extra steps in the process with RAW, just like we do with still photography and ACR.
I hope some time we have better RAW file support in software such as Final Cut, After Effects, etc..

Son of batch is indeed a very good converter. You can actually preview the .raw files and set In / Out points. However, there isn't support for spanned files - YET!
