Despite owning the 550D, I've never really been a fan of CMOS sensors, or of the bayer sensor pattern.
3CCD has always looked juicy in my own opinion, but I have been told it can only do up to certain resolutions before alignment becomes an issue.
(Although recording all three sensors separately could then be aligned correctly in post I would imagine.)

The axiom camera plans to use a CMV12000 from CMOSIS, which is a CMOS sensor with a global shutter, but it still has a bayer sensor pattern.

Which the problem with bayer is the moire.
But, ultimately with raw, if things like libraw improve, which it constantly does, moire becomes less and less a problem.
Sensors need to be responsive to frequency. Then they could dump the bayer filter which cut out around 80% of light iirc.

Which is in a way what that foveon does.
