Title: Will the SD card DSLR's ever be able to shoot 1080p RAW until card is filled?
Post by: Nickbibs on June 12, 2013, 06:04:33 PM
Considering selling my 7D for the 60D. Will the Canon's that use SD cards ever be able to shoot 1080p RAW until card is filled like the MK III and MK II? Or will the SD card be the limiting issue because of buffering speeds?

Best guess.  No.

There's been discussion on numerous ways to either make the data smaller, or concoct a means of recording the data from cameras to other devices (search the hardware section).  But so far, the results haven't been positive.

Good to know, was just about to sell my 7D for the 60D!

So the 50D would be the better bet at this point?

50D, 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, Blackmagic Cinema Camera, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Production Camera 4K.

That are your only options at the moment, if you want to record RAW vdeos in high resolutions.

The 60D has a write speed limit of 21 Megabyte/s. It can't be fixed, it is an hardware issue. And there's no lossless compression that can be achieved in camera that reduces the file size to 1/4 of the original size. So, yes. The 50D would be the better bet. No just at this point but in general if you can live without flipscreen and internal audio.
