Title: What are the prosepcts of getting the higher resolutions in crop mode stable?
Post by: futchibon on June 12, 2013, 04:02:46 AM
Hi,
I'm tossing up between getting a 5Dmiii or a Blackmagic camera. The Canons now look amazing thanks to ML, but the BMCC still seems to have the edge in resolution, since it can record at 2.5K.

I've seen some pretty impressive resolutions mentioned about crop mode, 3584X1320 and another around 2.8K which would be great.

AFAIK those resolutions only last a few seconds? Does anyone know if this is likely to improve, and what the barriers are?

Many thanks :)

To be honest... the BMCC is nothing compared to a 5d3 and ML.

If you're looking to buy now, I'd try to find a used 5d3.  If you can wait (until whenever it really comes out) get a BMPC.  If resolution is that important to you... the new Blackmagic camera shoots 4k.

But also... if you're trying to make money, and use a camera clients want... get a c100 or a c300... or even an FS700.  They are what is being used.

Mainly, I wouldn't go on a forum about camera hacking and ask people for work advice.  ;-)

Go with whichever you like best, but (like a car) get the one with the most resell value.
