Title: [IMPOSSIBLE] more than 3 picture styles
Post by: Bachi on December 15, 2012, 07:19:27 PM
Hey there,

is it possible to load more than three picture styles onto DSLRs via Magic Lantern?
Would be great!
If it is already possible, I'm sorry for asking ;)

Not possible. Picture styles are stored in a part of memory that is very dangerous to write to.

(this is not meant for bumping, just for adding a little extra information for those searching in the future)

Picture styles themselves are not copied to the camera. So a PF2 or PF3 couldn't just be placed on the camera and swapped in and out.
Canons remote shooting application, which is what is used to upload picture styles, reads them in and then must translate them into something completely different.
I snooped the USB data as they were copied across and it's nothing like what is in the picture style file itself.
And then when erasing a picture style, it just writes a massive tonne of 0's.
