Title: Chaos Collective - Lytro like images
Post by: Leffe67 on December 14, 2012, 05:53:45 PM
Hey all,

I just saw this article over at techcrunch:
http://techcrunch.com/2012/12/14/make-your-own-lytro-style-adjustable-focus-photos-with-dslr-video-and-a-simple-hack/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Techcrunch+%28TechCrunch%29

This software/service will create a Lytro like image with adjustable focus points by analyzing a video you upload.

It would be an awesome feature to add to Magic Lantern to be able to place the DSLR on a tripod, set focus to the closest setting, select the option and have ML start recording the video and evenly push focus out to infinity.  That could allow for smooth, automated captures.  What do you think?

It is called Rack focus and it is already there. You have to manually set the 2 focus points but it will do the rest. Read about it in the guide here (http://wiki.magiclantern.fm/userguide#rack_focus).

Thanks for letting me know.  I'm new here  :-[

I'm also only using the 5d Mk III beta, which I don't think includes that feature yet.

Anyway, if a mod wants to move this to a more general section, I think it's still a pretty interesting application that most of you can use the rack focus feature to achieve.  Cheers
