Title: Buying a Canon 6D for €180 - is it worth it?
Post by: lightwriter on April 14, 2022, 06:14:34 PM
Hi there!

I can buy a Canon 6D with 190.000 actuations for €180. I know the MTBF is 150.000. Is this a good deal?
Right now I have a Canon 700D with the kit lens, the 10-18 IS STM and a EF 35mm F/2 (the non stabilized version). I was planning to use the 35 with the 6D; I am a father of a small child, and low light performance is critical :D Besides, I believe a 35mm lens on a full frame body would allow my shots to breathe.

All opinions are welcome!

Low light performance of the 6D is very good.
Although in this case I would worry if those 190000 are indeed real.
According to this site:
https://shuttercheck.app/data/canon/eos-6d/ (https://shuttercheck.app/data/canon/eos-6d/)

There aren't that many that go beyond 190000 ??? But not sure how much data that is coming from.

180€ for a 6d is not much, but it can probably fail anytime if it really had 190000 shutter actuations, are you sure that number is real ?

find out how much it will cost to replace the shutter, and count it as a potential increase in price. if it is still ok, then get the camera :)
it's 50/50 chances anyway because nobody will know for sure, but if you only record videos then maybe you can live with this shutter count..

and this site (shuttercheck) is collecting data fom users with alive cameras, which is not really the shutter life expectancy metrics... it basically shows how many photos typically were made with these cameras. lol :D

If you do not plan to make money on this equipment, you can take the risk. I also had such a dilemma when buying the 5D Mk3, it had 475,000 on the meter, but it looked good from the outside. Soon it will be two years from its purchase, I still take photos with it and of course films with the Magic Lantern.
