Title: Any hummingbird photographers out there?
Post by: Kevinrea on July 29, 2020, 06:51:32 AM
Hi guys,
My name is Kevin Rea and I live in the southern California High Desert in Lancaster Palmdale area.
This is about 70 mi north east of Los Angeles.
I was using magic lantern on my Canon t3i 600D to take photos on a tripod of hummingbirds. Can someone else who is doing the same share your settings with me? I've been setting it on manual settings, focus it on the hummingbird feeder, I set the shutter about 1/2000 of a second, and the f-stop around f-11, and the ISO on Auto.
Could you guys tell me what settings you are using?
Thanks,
Kevin Rea

I'd be interested in knowing that, as well! I had been planning, before COVID, to go for a photo safari in Uganda, and do hope to fulfill that dream next year, or in 2022, in the worst case scenario. And that kind of knowledge would definitely be useful to me by then.

@Kevinrea

From my experience, shooting them in California and New Mexico, use dialled down flash and several of them, if you wish to freeze hummers' details.
