Title: Any other source of info besides the forums?
Post by: drmoreau on July 21, 2020, 11:08:34 PM
Is there a Facebook group, Google group, or anything else where it's a little quicker to get answers about stuff? It takes ages to find the relevant info here on the forum, and even then you're never sure if it's up to date or whatnot. A chat group sure would be simpler.

I sympathise, but a chat group would only work if the people who knew the answers joined it and regularly checked for questions...  and they're already doing that on the forum.  There's a subreddit, which is slower and less reliable to get answers.  There's an IRC channel, which I haven't checked for a long time so I can't tell you about.  There's an unofficial Discord for dev discussion but it has a very low population and most likely nobody can answer your questions in there.

The forums are the best place that I know of.

From my limited experience - there is no problem to get answers in forum. People rather promptly responds to questions and any posts. The problem is, IMHO, rather chaotic dispersion of knowledge. But I am afraid that its the natural way forums exist.. All answers are there, just have to find them (e.g. using "Search" (up right)).

Me personally, was thinking to make some kind video tutorial (or pdf) of all video functions that ML brings to e.g. 5Dm2.. Including recent builds, information on which modes gives you the best quality, continuous recording, how to enable them, etc.. There are very informative and nice posts people testing different bit depths, etc. But once again, this information is scattered over many different posts. With that being said and no matter how useful such thing would be (at least for myself), I must say that I am not too confident trying bleeding edge stuff on my personally owned camera... I am OK installing nightly, and using it. But latest twitchy, blinky, "not always works at first time" stuff is so scary to me :(

On youtube, you may try finding ZEEK. From what I know, he is the only one, who regularly posts on youtube about ML, etc. He always responds to comments left under his videos. Super cool and informative stuff.

In ML forum itself (under topic "3K/UHD 5D2 Raw development and Other Digic IV Cams"), reddeercity nicely organized all his developments on the very first page of the post. It nicely helps to follow all the current developments.

Did not answer your question though..
