Title: ML RAW the correct option here?
Post by: Camoncamera on October 15, 2019, 10:56:46 AM
I have a project where we need to capture high resolution moving images in the best quality possible. I came across ML 4K RAW, and really love the images. To my eyes it looks better than most or any of the 4K cameras out there. Even things costing way more. But from the get go I have been discouraged in using ML 4K RAW. People basically saying it's not for serious work. It's a gimmick and so on. But I love the image so much.

For this project, sound is not important. Long takes is not important. So large files is not a problem.

What is important is high resolution moving images, great color and general image quality and being able to continuously shoot 24p or 24fps.

But I have not been able to find all the info about ML 4K RAW I need to decide.

To me it seems 4K RAW is not possible in any standard aspect ratio such as 16:9 or 1:85, at least not in 24p? I saw only some very wide non standard ratios available in 24p, where one would need to chop the sides to get 16:9 or 1:85, so losing resolution. Is this correct or are there any new developments I may not have seen ?

About resolution, has there been any tests with resolution charts to see how much ML 4K RAW is really resolving?

I would really like to use ML 4K RAW. Because the alternative would be something like a GH5 and I really like the ML RAW images better. Or maybe a Blackmagic camera. But despite the blackmagics being RAW, it seems to me the 5D MKIII has better low light and general image quality and is full frame as well.

Thank you in advance for helping.
