Title: Video records black frames (photo works)
Post by: Howuhu on April 27, 2019, 11:25:25 AM
Was recording H264 with ML on a new card when video image fizzled and went black. Since then video only records black frames. I can still take photos but they do not show up as previews (image review works, though).

I can still see ML interface.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled ML, not sure what else to try.

Is this a possible camera error or did I play with one too many ML settings?

I use a Canon 550D.

Remove battery
Insert battery
Startup cam
Prefs tab -> Config options -> Restore ML defaults
Shutdown cam
Remove battery
Insert battery and startup cam

Retry and report.

Hi,

Thanks, restoring ML defaults turned out to be the missing step.

In this case, it's best to restore your old configuration, to identify what setting caused the black frames.

Though, if this happened in the middle of recording, it might be some hardware issue (and restoring ML defaults was just some coincidental action). You'll have to run further tests to narrow it down - including without ML.

ML will not destroy your camera, try to check your camera in canon service center.
good luck!
