Title: COSTA RICA - 2018 - CANON 7D
Post by: domo94 on December 20, 2018, 05:01:22 PM
After 6 months... I finally binged edited this til 5 am in the morning because I felt the fire and I've been wanting to make this video for a while now.

I'm genuinely REALLY happy with it and I'm proud of what I was able to do with a Canon 7d, VAF Filter, and 2 lenses (basically one because I used my 85mm for 2 shots in this video, which were the dragon lizards).

I HOPE YOU ENJOY THIS. I LOVE MAGIC LANTERN. EVERYTHING WAS SHOT RAW. THE COLOR IS AMAZING.

Quite the aventurero. Just out of curiosity, was this shot with the 2.0.6 firmware?

Hum -- two lenses, which was the other lens?

On my monitor, colors look very dull and washed out, more like unprocessed log footage.  The 7D can do much better than that.  You could try MLVApp v. 1.3 and you will enjoy very crisp and vivid colors.

Shot with 2.0.3 - in the Vimeo description I put both lenses.

Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8
Rokinon 85mm f/1.4

Mlv Raw Viewer was used to process all this footage at the time. I then used MLV Producer and have now been using MLV App.

It was shot in raw so it had to be processed. I think that was a creative choice--check out his other videos. The Mona Lisa also looks dull, she could use some makeup and a bigger smile.

Yes exactly. Trust me when I say I graded from LOG.

I had it over saturated at one point and I didn't like it. I make it so it looks more natural and not so vibrant to where it looks almost fake in a way.

I'm rendering right now to see a difference cause now you have me thinking.

*edit*
Huh.
For some reason when I saturated it the way I did before, the colors looked blown out. I was probably tired. I'll reupload in a minute. You're right about some of the colors.

A little criticism never hurt anybody!

That explains the flat look. So much for my creative license comment.

Good choices. I've got the Canon zoom and that Rokinon. Love manual primes but I don't travel around the world with them.

Haha. You're right about the style.
But I guess I'm unsettled now because maybe it ISN'T as colorful as I thought it was originally. It was 5 am.  :P

I'm looking at getting a super wide lens now because I am going to be getting into real estate video, soon. The 14 bit dynamic range is going to help a lot.

Domo94,

Just open one of the well exposed and properly focused MLV clips in MLVApp and try to move the sliders in such manner that the histogram fills up the entire area - from blacks to whites.  Play also with the dark sliders to get some more contrast.  Add some saturation or vibrance if appropriate.  Finally, add some sharpness and your shot will shine.

Here is a test video that I shot a while ago.  It will give you an idea of what colors and detail you can expect from the 7D:

Yeah I gotchu.
Remember I processed this footage way before I used MLV App about 6 months ago.

I'm just NOW getting around to editing.
They are exported ProRes 422.

I just fixed it and replaced it in vimeo - check out the updated video on vimeo!

Much better but now some of the clips have this yellow greenish cast. Use the wite  balance tool to fix that.

I mean...

I know how to color / edit & use my tools.

At this point it's not the biggest deal in the world.
