Title: SD card problem
Post by: scottrngr on August 20, 2012, 06:16:04 PM
I was transfering some files over to my computer, and about half way through, got an error messege (sorry, I dont remember what it was).  I hit ok, and now the card isnt recognized by the computer (i tried two different ones).  When I put the card back in the camera and try to turn it on, the camera is dead.  I take the card and the battery out, and the camera fires back up.  I'm running magic lantern on both cameras.  I seem to think since the camera wont fire up, it has to be something with the magic lantern software, but the other cards that have it are fine.  I tried software recovery programs, but have been told if the computer doesnt recognize the card, the software is of no help.  Any ideas?

This tool seems to create a disk image on Windows - didn't try it: http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/v3/drdd.htm

Under Linux, I would try dd, something like this: http://blog.lynxworks.eu/2007/09/using-dd-to-create-disk-images/

@admins: what about a dedicated board for data recovery, with a sticky with links to programs known to work?
