Title: 5D Mark III default card to write data to
Post by: arhi on September 08, 2017, 03:56:43 AM
Having weird issue, I hope someone can tell me if it has anything to do with ML and if there is a way to solve it (with ML or otherwise). I have CF card (bootable with ML on it) and a SD card in the camera. Since I have 2 cameras and they have different firmware (1.1.3 and 1.2.3, everything else is same, CF+SD and same problem) I do not want to mix the CF cards so I tend not to get them out of the camera at all and since the SD ones are bigger and cheaper I want to by default record data on SD card.

Whatever I do, after turning on the camera, it selects CF card as a default one :(.

Record func.: STANDARD
Record/play : SD

or

Record func.: AUTO SWITCH CARD
Record/play : SD

it is SD until I reboot camera (off/on), after that it boots, display show for a second that SD is selected and then moves the selection to CF. If I go to menu and move to SD it will record on SD till reboot, then again it will be CF.

A friend told me "last card you add to camera is default" so I tried then all the possible combinations
- boot camera with only cf, shut down, add sd, boot
- boot camera with only sd, shut down, add cf, boot
- shut down camera, remove both, add cf  then sd turn on
- shut down camera, remove both, add sd then cf turn on
- any other idea I had..

everytime it either boots with CF already selected or it turns on with SD selected and then changes the selection to CF

any ideas how to make the SD default?

It is recommended to record into CF and run ML from SD for best overall performance!

Ehm...i don't have a Mark III...but i read that it slows down if you put in a SD Card:

I don't know how it works with ML but i think with a Mark III you should not use any SD Card if you need performance  ;)
