Title: Full-resolution LiveView: 5796x3870 at 5fps
Post by: denishogan on September 01, 2017, 09:23:03 AM
 Hi All

I have been using Full-resolution LiveView: 5796x3870 at 7.4 fps (128ms rolling shutter) - continuous*) at 5 FPS! with success to capture still macro.

Given the low frame rate (5fps) has anyone used this , if so what is the recommend shutter speed for such slow rate under ML for a stationary subject/object. I see that "they" state to double the shutter speed of the FPS. which means if its 5fps then my speed should be 1/10. Given the subject is stationery and there is no movement is there any advantage of increasing the shutter speed. I have done some tests and cannot tell the difference other then loss of light.

cheers
Denis

could  you   upload  the  video  in full resolution  if  possible

Hi muanthang,

Apologies, i forgot to mention that I am using a 5x or 10x microscope at the end of my camera and there the video is very blur except for parts of the "slice" that are in focus ( shallow dof) as I am moving very slowly towards the subject matter on a rail. I then extract the DNGs from the video and then stack them. I can upload an image of the stacked image when I get home tonight.

cheers

Can you upload a sample MLV? Would like to check it. You can use:
mlv_dump -f 5 Output.MLV Input.MLV
Or create a sample package in Switch from (m) mlv_dump menu.

Hi Danne

Thanks for your help with your software before that got me going.

Yes I will upload it when I get home. There seem to be lots of haze as well. I will show a pic of my setup as well. My continuous light is behind the lens and therefore no light in going into the lens.

No worries. I am also interested in the MLV sample itself  :)
Are you developing those files in Switch by the way?

Danne

Not sure what Switch is? I just use your programs to extract DNGS from MLV, then I put all dngs into Helicon to stack them. Then I save as TIF and process the single stacked image in Adobe Camera Raw, then into CC

What is the purpose and benefit/s  of Switch?

I started porting the scripts to linux subsystem on windows 10. Most of it kind of works but needs some last touchups.

Hi Danne

The MLV is going to take hours to upload. In the meantime here are some screen captures of the stacked files. NO EDIT DONE

Try shorten your MLV file:
mlv_dump -f 5 Output.MLV Input.MLV

does not work. tried at cmd , mlv_dump -f 5 M31-1735-Copy.MLV M31-1735-Copy.MLV. What am I doing wrong

File M31-1735-Copy.M00 not existing.

There is no *.M00 files in the folder

These are some screen captures with no edit or noise reduction

If you check the left hand corner there is a significant issue about 20-30% that is corrupted.

mlv_dump -f 5 -o Output.MLV Input.MLV

Amazing shot example.

Still an issue, I am using MLV Dumper v1.0. Is the syntax I wrote correct "mlv_dump -f 5 -o M31-1735-Copy.MLV M31-1735-Copy.MLV"

IN CMD
C:\Users\Denis\Desktop\___RAWTODNG TEST\___WORK AREA 6\ORIGINALS>mlv_dump -f 5 -o M31-1735-Copy.MLV M31-1735-Copy.MLV

   - Rewrite MLV
   - Output into 'M31-1735-Copy.MLV'

You mustn´t use the same name for input and output. It might erase your file even. Be careful.

Sorry to hear about the footage loss :(. It's the naming. Should be a safeguard for this in mlv_dump.

Yes, thanks a lot :).
I notified g3gg0 about this fatal erasing error in mlv_dump. Hopefully he can put in a safeguard of some kind.
Any dng corruption examples I think could be of interest for a1ex maybe. I have very little knowledge of how to control what´s going on inside the camera.
Title: Re: Full-resolution LiveView: 5796x3870 at 5fps
Post by: denishogan on September 01, 2017, 02:54:33 PM
again my error as I am shooting at 1:1 and the rail is moving forward in UM ( micro mm ) I think there is diffraction or telecentric issue.

I checked all the dngs individually and cannot see any corruption of the left side but I suspect when they are stacked there is change in the image size ( I think) .

I might try 16:9 or different ratio maybe but I am clutching at straws

Thanks I will I and really not sure what I am doing with the video settings but I will try several different combinations and post them

So what do you see with the file I uploaded?

I am going to take more video and will chat later, thanks
Danne, are you on facebook, its nice to put a face to a friend.

The files looks ok. I wanted to check dng processing behaviour on bigger files and it works well too.
I'll send you a pm about the other query.

with the mlv_dump, what parameters would help in terms of better quality , if any , when I extracted the DNG's in yr opinion?

For 5D mark III I wouldn't mess with settings unless something seems wrong. Darkframes are always good to include.

Hi Danne

FYI: You may be interested that I get some corrupted DNGS from time to time but I am not sure the cause"

1. issue with crop rec bug? or
2. issue when files are being extracted to DNG ?
3. issue with CF card?

This folder had 353 DNGs and only 1 dng was corrupt.

cheers

Hi Alex

Well I created about 12 mlvs but no corruptions. Must be intermittent,

I am still taking MLVs and if it occurs I will provide the MLV and advise you.

Thanks for your patience

Hi Alex

You requested a sample MLV file . I had this issue from time to time as an intermittent problem.

I did a movie today and all 3 MLV's were corrupted, Every single DNG.

Attached is the MLV link of the corrupted file
I ran:  mlv_dump -f 2-10 -0 corrupt.mlv m24-0944.mlv

Best guess: some issue during lossless compression.

Would be great if you can find a way to reproduce it. Can you exclude this scenario?

http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19300.msg188952#msg188952

(taking a still picture from Canon's movie mode appears to interfere with the lossless compression)

Hi Alex

A general question.

Is it technically feasible to increase the FPS  for the current 5796x3870 @ 5fps or have we hit the 'physical' limit?

cheers
Denis
Title: Re: Full-resolution LiveView: 5796x3870 at 5fps
Post by: a1ex on February 15, 2018, 04:43:49 PM
The physical limit (or possibly also a limit given by our lack knowledge) is about 7.4 FPS.

The 5 FPS limit is given by card write speed. Saving on both SD and CF might give a small improvement (probably about 6 FPS); not sure if it's worth the trouble for implementing it.
