Title: 5D Mark II won't start
Post by: joao gomes on September 01, 2017, 12:57:38 AM
Hi.

I´ve read a lot of threads on the subject but i still can´t get my camera to start.

I deleted the ML files from the card and now my 5D mark II only turns on without card.
I´ve tried four other cards that never had ML installed on them but still no good...

I´m formatting a card on my mac (with that 7 Step formatting) but i´m not convinced it will work.

Should i put the ML files on the card again and see if it boots from there??

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi Walter.

I've read the install guide but i made a mistake. I forgot how to uninstall ML and that's why i'm here.

Since my first post, i tried installing ML again on the same card but apparently the card got corrupted. It won't work, not even on my 7D. I try to format it on the 7D and it says that it can't be formatted and "Change Card".

I've also tried the blinking tests and downloaded the autoexec files but since the original ML card is not working, i installed from other CF cards and nothing worked.
I just thought to look for some help here before i throw the camera in the trash.

Thanks.

First: Don't use CF-to-SD-adapter (if any).
Format CF-card in cardreader.
Remove battery. Insert CF-card. Insert battery.
Does it work now?

If not:
- Run MacBoot (OS X) or EOScard (Windows) and make your card bootable. If there are files located on card after: Wipe all files and directories.
- Copy extracted nightly build contents to card.
- Remove battery, insert card, insert battery.
Does it work now?

If not:
Copy diagnostic autoexec.bin (portable display test) to card.
Remove battery, insert card, insert battery.
Does display test work?

If not:
Do you have copies of your ROM files?

Hi Walter.

Thanks for your reply.

I got it work just now, after spending the night awake. I tried turning in on with one of the other non ML cards, for the 10000th time, and it worked.
I then installed ML on the camera and did the uninstall from camera. I "updated" the firmware and let the 60 seconds run out in order to reset the bootflag thing (sorry i'm not that much tech savvy).

It apparently never boots on two specific CF cards (one of them the original ML card).
I have other three cards where it works about 70% of the times. When it doesn't i take the battery and CF card out and insert them again. Every other time i get that Error 80 message, which is new, and the camera keeps getting out of Live View mode, i have to press the Live View button every three seconds to keep the camera in Live View mode. This was already happening before though.

The camera is not back to normal but at least it is usable now.

I'm afraid to mess with it but i guess there are still some traces of ML code in there.
