Title: New to RAW, Can't find RAW files in SD Card.
Post by: suals on August 25, 2017, 07:57:33 PM
Hello, I am very new to this.

I just recently got ML onto my 5D3 and recorded some test clips with the RAW feature on. Now I have read about exporting RAW to DNG and what not but before getting to that point when I put my SD card into my Macbook and browse to look for the clip I just had recorded it comes up as this

I have no idea what this is, and i'm very confused as to how I can get my RAW files?
Sorry for being such a bird brain but this is all just new to me.

Hello!

I think you could use this guide as a starting point.

This guidet is not recent. but the basic concept remains the same.
Maybe the versions of those software are more up-to-date now, but you can find others useful applications, and new ideas to create your personal workflow in this forum ;)

Use Switch for mac:

https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=15108.0

It runs in terminal – very straight forward – just select the folder you wish to extract the DNG from the .MLV file and select the output destination using the 'C' key from the main menu.

For 14bit raw I choose to manually set the black level to 2048 and white level to 16383 (but that's just what I do).

Hit the 'R' key to run the command. Once completed you'll have a folder full of DNGs and a .wav file (if you selected mlv-snd in camera). You then just import the clip in resolve and make your proxies / begin editing.
