Title: JPEG video module (?)
Post by: FluidMovementMovies on October 16, 2016, 09:02:12 PM
Hi all.

First of all, I want to clarify that this isn't by any means a troll thread, I write this with all my hope that the idea would be possible and I don't want to offend the developers.

Given the slow card slot speed on most Canon cameras (non full frame mostly), it's not possible to record 1920 x 1080 RAW video continously. I began testing with different JPEG sizes to see how well my 70D solved detail in non-native resolutions. 1920 x 1280 JPEGs are more detailed than 1080p video, they have not strong moire or aliasing, noise is less noticeable, etc... so I asked myself if it would be possible to shoot JPEG continuously (without actioning the mirror) just like RAW in lower resolutions, because one 1920 x 1280 JPEG is about 600 KB so at 24 fps it would be like 14 MB/s, and that would be under the lowest SD slot speed on any canon camera (21 MB/s on the 1100D I think). Maybe this is ridiculous, but it's just an idea  ::)
