Title: Help with MLV File: Won't open because corrupted by 7D shutting down
Post by: PaulHarwood856 on October 12, 2016, 07:00:37 AM
Hello ML Community,

     I was shooting raw video on my 7D a few months back, and during recording a long file my battery died.

     I cannot open the file, and don't have much experience with MLV_Dump. I have read a forum post about this issue and MLV_Dump possibly figuring out what the problem is with the file:

     http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=16126.0 (http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=16126.0)

     Here is a link to the file via Google Drive if anyone wants to take a look: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0Bz5n0qYxIkVOZHo4STFMTzVGdUE?usp=sharing (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0Bz5n0qYxIkVOZHo4STFMTzVGdUE?usp=sharing)

     I appreciate any help that can be provided. Thank you.

- Paul Harwood

Title: New server - Forum info center (bottom)
Post by: Kharak on October 12, 2016, 10:12:45 AM
First of all congratulations on the move to a new server. As i understood the old one was not coping very well anymore.

The news feed says to report stuff that used to work. Well i usually check the bottom 'info center' of the forum main page for new posts and threads, i am sure i am not the only one and as you might have noticed, it now posts each new post in a thread as an individual post in the info center, so it looks like spam because there are 10 of the same 'RE: ...' To a tread In the info center. This only leaves room for about 4-5 different threads in the info center.

Would be nice to have it the way it was before where only 1 of each tread depending on post date would be shown in the info center. Top ones being most recent and bottom oldest.

Thanks

Tapatalk users -- check to see if you have anything in your "PARTICIPATED" tab. Looks like mine and @DeafEyeJedi don't have any items there.
Title: Re: New server
Post by: DeafEyeJedi on October 15, 2016, 01:35:10 AM
Seriously this is a big bug with the new server. At first I thought it was a Tapatalk issue but then I checked with other forums which then shows the enlisted participate section.

Even after replying to this thread -- still doesn't show up under participate section. I find this very useful for me to track down all my participation with you guys on certain threads.

Here's what the empty participate section looks like from ML:
(https://c7.staticflickr.com/6/5641/30297056926_e7b1a28e4a.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/Nafkus)

Here's what the participate section looks like from within another Forum:
(https://c6.staticflickr.com/6/5478/30246171501_0e9021e537.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/N5Kx2x)

Could this be related to the new server @g3gg0?

okay this was quite an odyssey
had to reinstall tapatalk addon (no clue why, i copied databases and sources from original server...)
so i have manually undone the patches tapatalk installation made to the sources (i.e. edit all source files and search for tapatalk's modifications)

and then reinstall the plugin:
but this required to allow FTP access for chmod and file operations.
but the vsftp didnt allow SITE CHMOD for the current chrooted user (although it was enabled and rights were correct plus it worked from cmdline)
and with the in.ftpd chroot needed all binaries in chrooted environment too.
non-chrooted didnt work due to SMF not wanting to accept the "root path" to prefix to file operations.

but finally it works ;)

aaaaaaah!

Ahhhh damn @g3gg0 what a great way to wake up from this brief nightmare and much thanks for the fix even tho it may seemed tedious work or quite an odyssey which was absolutely worth it at the end of the day!

Will definitely keep an eye out for anything weird or out of the ordinary going forward -- Thanks again mate!

Oh btw I love what you did to the main page of ML on top right corner --

Sorry I had to remind myself to double check with you @g3gg0 on whether or not this was normal for it not to work -- whenever I subscribe certain threads to follow (dont remember when this stopped following) but it's been quite awhile and also can anyone else also chime on this matter as well?

I hope this might help.

I have finally managed to access the forum But, I can do that only if browsing while using a VPN.

my PC runs windows 7 pro + Service Pack 1

On chrome version 53, while running Betternet 4.0.7
Same for Firefox 49 + Browsec 2.0.3
I can access the forum. Without the VPN i get:

Quote from: lojzik on October 19, 2016, 05:46:40 PM

On Opera Stable 40 I get the same line of code if I try to access the forum

if it is so and ipv6 is not supported by forum, you should disable ipv6 on server and/or remove aaaa from dns.

Not sure why/how some of us are still effected by this so called 'Data too long for column 'ip' at row 1' bug which has to do with these running IPV6 via through internet/wifi at home (my current workaround to bypass is to use my iPhone's hotspot and connect to it's wifi) otherwise I cannot use the ML forums.

After a few researches online and came across to this (http://stackoverflow.com/a/21523073)...

QuoteYou are trying to insert data that is larger than allowed for the column logo.

Use following data types as per your need

TINYBLOB   :     maximum length of 255 bytes
BLOB       :     maximum length of 65,535 bytes
MEDIUMBLOB :     maximum length of 16,777,215 bytes
LONGBLOB   :     maximum length of 4,294,967,295 bytes

Use LONGBLOB to avoid this exception.

and I'm not even sure if this would give you a hint or two @g3gg0.

A workaround on mac is to change to link-local only.
You find it under system preferences - network - Advanced - TCP/IP

(https://s14.postimg.org/3sml2ss35/Screen_Shot_2016_10_25_at_19_08_11.png)

And as pointed out from others youtube and vimeo embed buttons are gone.

Just noticed this as well but if I place the URL link from Vimeo on here it'll just automagically embed it online for viewing purposes. Not sure about YouTube.

Not sure about YouTube.

The YouTube tag still works for embedding video though there's no button on the editor. Note that you need to change https to http for the youtube tag to work.

This works:

But this doesn't:

http://youtu.be/ZzcMQuLAXKs

Like you said, vimeo works fine just like this:

On the top right of this forum page there are three links: Home Page, Downloads, and Userguide.
When I click user guide, it redirects to the Nightly Builds page. The URL says https://wiki.magiclantern.fm/, though.
If i'm not wrong this is a bug, because I used to be able to read a wiki page there.
Thanks

seems HTTPS never worked for wiki, but if you used HTTPS used once for magiclantern.fm, browsers always try to use it, giving you the downloads page...

Not sure why so many new videos posted in "Share Your Videos" don't show up in the users post not even after logging in just to watch a video, yet others are replying to videos after viewing so not having the issue. Win 10 64bit Firefox, MS Edge and Chrome. Just logging in and refreshing doesn't solve it. I have to close the tab having first logged in then start a new tab and revisit the thread then the video appears.

I'm not sure if it's a problem or intentional, but I can't find any way to be notified of new posts in threads I've participated in. (I only use the forum through a web browser, not the Tapatalk app)

I can see the notifications tab in the modify profile page, and I've turned notifications on, but the section for "Current Topic Notifications" is blank. The SMF help pages suggest that I can click a Notify button on any thread I want, but it doesn't appear to be visible anywhere on the Magic Lantern forums.

Second 'problem' - are profile pictures limited to Hero users? I've tried adding a link through modify profile before but it never actually saves.

Not sure if this is the right spot to report but for awhile whenever we paste Vimeo URL links (without the s in https://) and not need of inserting proper embed links to make it appear doesn't seem to work anymore which then would require us to use proper embed links such as '
'?

However, there's also another annoying issue when it comes to using Tapatalk apps via iOS devices -- has anyone notice when using proper URL embeds it doesn't show the vimeo player upon using the app unless we either go into 'Webview mode' via Safari or just simply paste the normal vimeo URL without the embed link (really frustrating for our reading experience) so not sure if this has anything to do with the new server that you guys currently use to host this forum site?

Because in the past it was all working fine like normal in 3-ways like literally. This very issue also applies to normal OS X viewing (Safari, Firefox, Chrome) if I were to use a normal vimeo URL which would then usually show up as a video player (like as if I had used an embed URL when not needed) as this also no longer works hence the above reports -- could these issues be related altogether at the very least?

Because in the past it was so easy just to copy the normal vimeo URL (only required to eliminate the 'S' in https://) which was not only much easier to copy/paste and it also worked like wonders when it comes to viewing online whether it's on Mac OS X via Safari or iDevices iOS via Tapatalk, etc so something must have changed in between, hmm?

I have iphone and since yesterday the forum is all screwed up. Looks like it is trying to display in desktop mode, but the format doesn't fit.

Indeed, I've upgraded the SMF theme to this one (https://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=4040), which is supposed to be a little more mobile-friendly. I don't use a smartphone, so I have little or no idea how this forum feels like, on small devices. Of course, I can simulate the look by resizing the browser, or borrow a smartphone to try, but... I don't know how it should be. Should I revert this change and go back to default theme?

Also, if you can suggest a SMF theme that works well on smartphones, I'm all ears.

Having trouble to use search within a forum post. Usually while being inside a forum thread you are able to use search from within the topic you´re in. Can´t get it working now. It goes out searching through all threads.

Where is the search bar anyway? On vacay?
Title: Re: New server - Please report any problems with the site here
Post by: a1ex on May 22, 2019, 04:40:23 PM
Seems to work fine here. For example, if I go into the big crop_rec_4k thread and if I type "download" (a pretty generic word) in the search box on the top right, I only get results from that topic. Or, right here in this topic, if I type "search", I only get 3 results (all from this topic). If I do the same from the main page, I get many pages with results from different topics.

I did enable whole-word matching, as I've searched for LED a few days ago and also got matches for "installed" and many other unrelated words. But that shouldn't interfere with the search-within-topic feature...

The search box is visible in Ilia's screenshot, btw.

Click on the little chevron on the top right; it should reveal the missing buttons.

This was present before the upgrade, too, according to archive.org (I've never noticed it before).

I prefer the forum like it was, everything is so crammed, like this reply box i am writing in now. This is the 4th line down already..(5th)

Videos on the forum dont fit, i have to zoom out very far or scroll far right to find the middle play button on Youtube vids.

I suppose i like that it was so similar to the desktop version on the phone.

@Kharak: no problem to go back: on firefox mobile, click the menu dots, then click "Desktop Page" (or similar). Then it looks like before. In chrome app there should be something similar too...

Indeed, videos are not resized properly. This is not new; the older theme had the same problem (but I guess the mobile browsers displayed a zoomed-out version, masking the issue).

Anyone good at CSS, to fix it? I don't feel like reverse engineering SMF themes...
Title: Re: New server - Please report any problems with the site here

For RWD 16:9 videos I always used this CSS, don't remember original source now:
.embed-container {
    position:       relative;
    padding-bottom: 56.25%;   /* 16/9 ratio */
/*  padding-top:    30px; /* IE6 workaround*/
    height:         0;
    overflow:       hidden;
    margin-bottom:  10px;
    border-radius:  2px;
    z-index:        1;
    }

.embed-container iframe,
.embed-container object,
.embed-container embed,
.embed-container div.embed {
    position:       absolute;
    top:            0;
    left:           0;
    width:          100%;
    height:         100%;
    }

Of course whatever is inserted inside has to have no width/height set. This worked at least for YT, FB and I think Vimeo videos.
And you may add max-width to .embed-container since it will fill parent (which was expected in my case)

Editing: solved, it was a permission issue.

Imgbb integration: no, not going to happen. Even if g3gg0 trusted them a while ago, I don't (https://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3869897) share (https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/imgbb-contact-and-removal/) the (http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/index.php?topic=118959.0) same (https://voat.co/v/pizzagate/2051044) opinion (https://www.pond-life.me.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16283).

I am, however, considering other options - suggestions welcome. The easiest way would be to enable uploads on our server, but I want to understand the security implications first. I'd also like to re-host existing images (or attempt to restore them from archive.org where possible).

FYI, these upgrades are not done for the lulz. They should have been done years ago.

I agree. They require shady javascript. Using iframes linking to JS bloated websites is bad.
I've been using Pictshare (https://www.pictshare.net/) for some time and it works. They seem to require JS for upload, but they give a hard link after it and it loads only the file, nothing more (unlike imgur and imgbb).
Of course, if you want something trustworthy you need to self-host.

Another idea for more privacy would be to redirect youtube links to Invidious (https://github.com/omarroth/invidious).
Title: Re: New server - Please report any problems with the site here
Post by: a1ex on September 17, 2019, 08:27:22 AM
Thanks for the suggestions; Pictshare looks a lot more reasonable.

Maybe some automatic self-hosting bot, uploading things to our server after a moderator approves the post, could work without exposing us too much. There are plenty of spam images that I don't want to be hosted on this server. You don't usually see them, as new users have to be approved by moderators before their posts appear. The unfortunate side effect is that posts of new users appear with some delay, ranging from a few hours to a few weeks (as the moderators are also working in their spare time - like everyone else).

I also like the idea of no-JS video playback from Invidious. Now, to figure out how to integrate it with SMF...

Definetly better, privacy wise. But not perfect, as we don't own the server and can't know whats going on on their end.

Same as before @garry23, using "img":

More correct version:

In the past (about 1 year ago or a bit more) I could see a the tweets or a part of tweet in a box under "@autoexec.bin on Twitter" text and I could scroll between them and click on it to view the tweet I chose on Twitter in a new page , it was a fast and cool preview of new tweets , Who made that box disappear ?  :'(

Please return it , it was cool and nicer than this empty white space , anyone used to click on tweets from that Box? Say something :P

wtf! I go to the effort of only embedding the image in my posts without wacky ibb links or javascript, but even my images are hidden, I think they went a bit too far with blocking it. Might as well block all images hosted on amazon or google servers.

The forum used to have an "add image" thing that went to imgbb, can that be added back but with some other upload site?

As for Twitter on home page, I accidentally posted this in EOS M thread  :-[

The code is there, but it's commented - so it was intentional.
Maybe it stopped working? I checked and current widget embed code is slightly different than one on site: https://publish.twitter.com/

Yes, it stopped working on May 25, 2018. Once I'll sort out that issue, I'll add it back :)

I found two previously used IP's in the range blocked because spam reasons. The related IP lists were added fairly recently, so they may have worked previously.

IPs used in error messages doesn't match any of the blocked ranges though. If you want to shoot me a PM with the IP's you have trouble with I can look into it further.

Hopefully you were greeted by a message such as this:
QuoteYour IP has been marked as a spam host. If you believe this is in error please message a global moderator. You might also try Discord: https://discord.gg/uaY8akC

If not, it may be an older block that hasn't had it's message updated.

These blocks are all manual. Until the forum software gains some form of automated spam list protection, the lists will remain manual based (so may become outdated). Given the level of spam that has been reduced by aggressively blocking IP ranges lately (and yes, I have been nuking VPN hosts if they host spam bots), the IP block list is only going to grow larger, not smaller. Again, PM's will help with IP's being blocked as I might be able to weed out false positives.

@PaulHarwood856

I asked a1ex (forum admin) about it a long time ago, he told me this feature was disabled, because of spammers . . they are probably putting spammy profile pitctures.
And until now, it seems it still disabled. I don't know if there is a workaroud for spammy profile pitctures, I am not very familier with forums, also I am not an admin.

We probably need to discuss that with g3gg0 (forum admin) or Audionut (global moderator), they are being online on Discord (https://discord.gg/uaY8akC), and they probably can discuss that.

So what happen here ? I'm lost can't even found the latest posts it's so out of place even going to desktop version doesn't help . I hope the old site is coming back soon. Even searching window I can't found this deftly is going to put a damper on my work in general sorry don't mean to be negative here but "it it's not broke don't fix it" so was there a problem with the old site?
And what with the "I agree" thing when I logged in ? It doesn't even give the terms of the agreement so what I'm I Agreeing too here ?

Minor issue:
"Recent Posts" now shows *every* latest post.

Former version: Only *latest* post in a thread.

reduced the number of posts to 10

That was not what I meant. Thus a busy thread will make new entries in other threads invisible.
Can you restore the old forum scheme?

Other thing: Odd feeling with font in reply window. Different font? EDIT: Yes, Quick Reply, modify are using a different font.

And wiki is offline.

I like the new design, I wish there would be more smileys to choose from  :D
Still details to polish, like people is pointing out, but good feeling overall

Yay, I can change my profile photo now, thanks g3gg0 for bringing it back!
(it was disabled in the past for spammy reasons (https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=18003.msg242064#msg242064))

@g3gg0
This gif seems missing:

I think it's used in Contributor profiles, e.g. Walter profile look like this:

While other profiles have these colored squares:

SMF (forum script) was updated to a new major version. Not sure if old style (which was default SMF style for years) is even included with the new one.

Ah yes, that felt odd while beta testing update yesterday - but I didn't catch what exactly has changed, only that something did.

Not that important but, @g3gg0 it seems you disabled location setting completely?
Because the new update made it displayed under account name in every post.

IIRC it was public in the past, but also it was only displayed when you visit someone profile . .

All video embeds are broken. Turns out prior to now SMF had to use a plugin, now they support the same tags out of the box... but changed how they work because why not.

There's a workaround posted on their forums... hopefully it will fix them without editing all posts in database.

Videos, both youtube and vimeo should be fixed. Took a plugin... and some fixes to that plugin.
If any is still not playing (but if you use qoute to get the link and it plays fine directly on vimeo/yt), please link it in this topic.

Also InfoCenter shows again just the last message in given topic.

Awesome work, thank you! The embedded videos work better now, before they were too big, taking the whole width  :D

g3gg0 restored wiki from backup, as missing SMF integration led into massive spam infestation. It is integrated with SMF again (requires separate login, but with forum credentials)

But profile pictures work for the first time since like 2018  8)

Thanks!

Thanks for fixing wiki SSO!

Minor issue: "Recent changes" look odd and more than a bit confusing.
Initial view is ok but after a very short time additional info is shown messing up the view.

This rule doesn't apply to things exposed in internet. Keeping old, unmaintained software is asking for problems sooner or later. Unfortunately.

I was just wondering if there is or could be added an option to reduce the font size to have a more compact view. The new look seems to leave a lot of unused space. Thanks in advance.

Quote from: reddeercity on February 22, 2024, 12:58:05 AM"it it's not broke don't fix it" so was there a problem with the old site?

a) the forum software was so old, i couldn't even figure out what the potential for security holes was
b) the php version used was so old, i couldn't make any updates to the system without breaking at least the wiki too
c) the wiki version was so old and had security holes was just protected by the user credentials that lately revealed to be brute forced with leaked/breached credentials
d) there were too many spam messages by probably (?) leaked user accounts and there was no way to harden the forum against threats as it was so old
e) the database was crippled by too many old plugins messing around with tables

even for e) alone it was time to upgrade to a new forum version, trying to fix.

its like "why dare you to replace that camera (that falls apart), the photos are great!"
