I have seen that DNGs extract from MLV have jpg preview inside. With Adobe Digital Negative Converter you can extract this jpg and the result is a smaller file.
And if you get record without that information in camera? Is it possible to do that by modifying mlv_rec.mo file?
jpg preview = smaller files = bitrate save

My guess is that the MLV files straight out of camera don't contain a jpg preview inside.
The MLV contains the pure raw data plus some exif info.
The jpeg preview is probably made in the conversion step to DNG on your computer.
I said that couse MLV and DNG secuence have the same KB, more or less, and when I extract jpg previews it has half or 1/3.
