Title: Should I Upgrade to DaVinci Resolve 12?
Post by: 66dellwood on August 25, 2016, 06:03:55 PM
Running DV Resolve 11 just fine on an older Windows 7 machine (processor seems to keep up well; no speed issues).   Any views on whether the computer will likely be able to handle a version of Resolve 12?

Also curious whether 12 will provide me with any relevant benefits based on my use/workflow.

My summary workflow:  MLV files from 5d2; convert to CDNG via MLVProducer (love it); import CDNG to Resolve (usually with a LUT in the project settings); quick exposure fixes and grading; Render for final output (I typically do NOT use any other editing software).

Will Resolve 12 provide any meaningful quality or performance enhancements for this very simple CDNG raw editing?

thanks all.

Yes, a lot of new controls for DNGs sequences. It's faster too.
But i think you should research this on Da Vinci Forum!

the upgrade to 12.5 went just fine.  I just installed 12.5 (without uninstalling 11).  My old projects loaded perfectly.

My old PC is handling 12.5 just fine.

Cool!!!!

Maybe in the future you only need a good GPU. It's depends on your footage.
GTX 980 on PC or Mac, or a 280X or 290X on mac should be enough even for 4K!

and fast disk, in RAID Stripe.
