Title: Couple of questions before installing ML.
Post by: bighatfilms on August 11, 2016, 07:27:12 PM
Hello, I recently bought a T2i with a couple of lenses for $100 as a secondary camera, barely used when I bought it.

I have been looking into ML, and I think it could take my 550d and bump it up a notch in usefulness. But I have a couple questions before jumping head first. I have used CHDK on my point and shoots and love it.

The installation guide says to use original canon batteries, not third party batteries. But.. I do not have original canon batteries. I have no-name batteries that came with my BP-550D battery grip. as long as there fully charged when I start the firmware update, it should be fine right? The third party batteries I have work just fine for me, don't want to buy something I don't need.

How long does the firmware update take usually? If it takes 30mins thats fine. But I don't want to expect it to take less time, and have it take longer and I end up all stressed out worried I bricked my camera.

this might be in the wiki, but I couldn't find it. Does magic lantern effect the stock canon firmware? what I'm asking is if i don't want to use magic lantern features, can I just ignore them and use the camera as normal?

And lastly, thanks guys for help in advance. I have lurked the forum doing research, and you guys seem very helpful.
