Title: The Birth Of A Weapon. English longbow making documentary
Post by: nebruks on July 27, 2016, 10:05:55 PM

Shot on Canon 5D MKII camera in 14 Bit ML Raw with good old manual Nikkor lenses:
Nikkor 28mm f/2 Ai-S
Nikkor 35 mm f/1.4 Ai-S
Nikkor 50mm f/1.2 Ai-S
Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 Ai-S
Nikkor 105mm f/1.8 Ai-S
All movie is shot in natural light from the windows, no electricity or artificial light was used to light up the scenes. We discovered when using manual lenses on Canon full frame sensor the flicker and moire (what is common problem on Canon with new digital lenses) is lost. So this is not a problem of a sensor, but a problem of a digital lens distance to the sensor. Raw footage is graded in DaVinci Resolve with Arri Alexa 3D Luts and exported to Apple Pro Res 4444 XQ codec debayered to 2.5k. Edited in Final Cut Pro 7.

We shot 3 days and overall captured material was 5 hours. Also our suggestion for more filmic feel is to shoot on 24fps with shutter speed of 1/60 instead of standard 1/50. 1/50 on fast movements is way too much motion blur but 1/60 has more cinematic movements. For maximum quality please download the original 10 GB ProRes file below the Vimeo movie.

Fantastic work!!  The visuals were impressive, but also equally impressive was the audio.  How did you sync up & record?  Thanks!
