Title: When the roads have no end 2016 Magic Lantern RAW Ultra HD 4K
Post by: slicKrox on March 17, 2016, 06:44:15 PM

Its all began in 2014, when decided to test my first wide angle lens (canon ef 16-35mm f4 IS) while driving the car. I had big ambitions for new project, but in the end everything was spontaneity random video with my precious memories. Driven and visited different nice places across south of England, mostly with my friends and girlfriend. Thank you for watching and hopefully you will enjoy.

Camera used: Canon 5 Mark III + Magic Lantern RAW video and ML intervalometer  + Ef 16-35 F4 IS L + EF 70-200mm f2.8 IS L sometimes.

Excellent combo to go with 16-35 & 70-200 together on the 5D3. Admittedly I had watched this for the 5th time and last time on my 2.5K 27" monitor ... Absolutely stunning and sick work done by @SlicKrox!

Did you by any chance tried using FRSP for the Timelapse work that you done?

Also during the waves shots at the beach ... Did you use slo-mo (48,50 or 60p)? Have you tried using crop-mode @ 2.5K? Heck even Dual-ISO or let alone HDR?

Thanks for sharing, Mate!

Hy. Thank you. I'm happy you like this random work.

In this project I did not used FRSP, Dual ISO or crop-mode 2.5k. Color grading was done in post with Lightroom, Davinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro with lumetri tools. Video was shot in 60p in 1080p, sharpened till its limits and scaled to 2160p (4k).

But FRSP few months ago I used in this video:

@slicKrox -i would like to ask what do you think about IS in 16-35 f4. I have 16-35 f2.8 L II and recently i did some handheld aerial footage from a helicopter (and i couldnt take my gyro with me). I am curious if IS would really be helpful. Do you have any IS ON/OFF comparison footage? I was looking on youtube but there are only couple shots like this. Thanks.

Sorry for late replay.

I love mine ef 16-35mm f/4 IS. Its sharp from edge to edge, precise, not so heavy and bulky like f/2.8 Canon and Tamron with stabilisation version. Perfect for travelling. I was considering to change to tamron 15-30 f/2.8 VC version, but in the end I decided to stay with ef 16-35mm f/4 IS. Its build like tank and more time / heavy use proof.

I think that without IS I would not be able to make such a steady shots from the car. It was fixed with tripod and magic arm on the back seat and was not 100% stable. Because that in some situations I had only 1/15- 1/30 shutter speed, and some even 1-2s.

I had samyang 15mm f/2.8 for one week, but I was disappointed of blurry edges and when replaced it with superb ef 16-35mm f/4 IS.
