Title: 5D mk III 4K video recording
Post by: Sphynx on January 11, 2016, 03:06:04 PM
Hello..

I would like to finally get clear about this. There is multiple people around the web who is claiming that they can record 4K using 5D makr III with installed ML on it.
I have fast CF card 160MBs and only what i can see is 1080pRAW as maximum possible resolution not 4K

Is that internal 4K recording with 5d mark III hoax or im doing something wrong?

You cannot do 4k@24 continuously.
For resolutions beyond 1080p you need to enable crop mode. Movie tab -> Movie crop mode ON. Press 5x button and revisit RAW/MLV settings.
For slightly higher transfer rates use firmware 1.1.3 (and ML for 1.1.3).

I really don't think any honest people are claiming this. Maybe they mean 4k timelapses but that is not what you are looking for.

Well, you can push your 5D above 1080 and then scale your way to 4K and surely achieve a better "4"K result than many consumer "4"K solutions, but that's not what you're after I suspect :)

This is the most promising discussion on the possibility of a ML 4K solution.

Everything else I've seen is either scaled up, time lapse or a hoax.
