Title: Higher grey/hacked preview frequency?
Post by: johannsebastianbach on January 06, 2016, 10:41:36 AM
Hello  :)

Is there a way to increase the frequency of the grey/hacked preview? I would like to shoot in 3x zoom mode in the right framing. The grey/hacked preview is super, but way to slow for even a slight focusing or hand holding the camera. Is there a way to accelerate preview to 24 fps by just changing a value (even if it means a shorter record time), or is it just the max. speed the camera can do?
5DmkIII dec.113

Thanks in advance!  :-*

just a question for understanding, does adtg_gui has something to do with grey hacked preview or is it an another story of getting correct framing from crop mode by letting the camera believe it's in 1080p mode? Cause I'm completely fine with the grey pixely look, only interested in a higher preview framerate.

Greyscale preview uses the CPU, which will never be fast. Only way to be fast is to use hardware image processing pipeline. Tweaking CMOS/ADTG registers allows us to modify the parameters of the pipeline so we get correct framing for crop mode.

Wow, it's works!!!
And required nothing but common sence and some courage thanks to great amount of priceless info and manuals shared by this great community!!!
Actually, my ultimate goal was to get correct framing in crop mode on external monitor.
@johannsebastianbach: Here is recipe for you:
1. http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=15894.0
2. Merge iso-research with unified.
The idea was taken here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10111.msg129237#msg129237
3. Here is how to enable: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10111.msg145036#msg145036
Viola, centered FHD crop, color and realtime, and with ext. monitor too, continuous with decent card.

wow...i'd love to have this feature, ideally on 5D3.113 build (it is the ideal thing that would make shooting crop mode focus accurate with external monitor).
I followed the links and read the info for a couple of hours as to how to compile and merge to get it to work - but I really still don't follow how to implement...I am such a simpleton :(

Is there any chance of this accurate 3x crop realtime preview making it's way to the nightly builds?

Do you run OS X? If so, follow dfort's instructions (http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=16012.msg155422#msg155422).
If you are running Windows: Either install OS X in a virtual machine or - more complex and not supported for every hardware existing - try your machine to work as Hackintosh.

@Walter Schulz:
I'm on Windows and dfort provided excellent manual for Windows too - first link in my recipe.
Additional notes:
I don't have "a few black lines at the top" a1ex was told about.
It's possible to shoot first in non-crop mode, then swich to crop and shoot, but if you want come back - you should restart camera, image gets corrupted, if you just stop override registers.
Dual ISO doesn't work. Despite I compiled it with changes from iso-research branch. If I enable Dual ISO, Auto ETTR ajust exposure accordingly, but regular data recorded to files, not Dual ISO.
