Hi guys,
Recently i have been doing some test for an upcoming short film for a respected british director. Long story short, i threw the word: "anamorphic" in it and they got hooked. One little problem: The budget of this movie is too low to afford shooting with such lens, so i have been tasked to come out with some alternative.
did some researches and come out with basically this:
anamorphic filters
and
anamorphic adapters.
The fine guys at Vidatlantic: http://www.vid-atlantic.com/anamorphic/ have some interesting filters that mimic few of the great characteristics that we would like to have on our short.
Thanks to a scalpel, black cardstock, an adapter ring and fishing line we already manufactured basically the cinemorph filter, and it works a treat for bokeh and flares. thing is, we would like to have the same effect on wide lenses as well.
In this days we will be creating using the same materials a copt of this other cinemorph filter:
http://www.vid-atlantic.com/products/cinemorph-mod
basically being the same thing, only placed on the rear element.
Will post the result as soon as it's ready.
The thing is, i have been eyeing up this anamorphic adapters:
http://www.slrmagic.co.uk/slr-magic-anamorphot-133x-50-anamorphic-adapter.html
and
http://letusdirect.com/cart/letus-anamorphx-adapter.html
But they are a bit pricey.
Does any of you know any good anamophic adapter (and has experience with it possibly) worth looking at that would not rape our wallet?
Thanks in advance!
Also, i have found this tutorial that would be quite helpfull to recreate that look i am after:

Thanks in advance! :)
Hello Extremelypoorfilmaker,
Have you taken a look at Alan Besedin's "Vintage Lenses for Video" Youtube channel? He has been releasing some videos about anamorphic lenses lately.
https://www.youtube.com/user/alanbesedin
I have also made my own anamorphic adapter out of cardboard and love the look of it but I don't have any experience with real anamorphic lenses.
I hope this information proves helpful.
Good luck to you,
Robby
Thank you very much Robby, i have checked the link you posted and i am already researching the web to see if anyone sells the anamorphic lenses he shows in his videos.
with a bit of luck i will find what i am looking for! :)
Let's hope this post gets filled with time with more and more link about anamorphic alternatives! :)

Great read and Thanks for sharing, @QuickHitRecord!
Dont forget the "Dog Shidt optiks" lenses, made by Richard Gale in the UK !
Not too expensive, excellent resolution, very sharp, awesome anamophic Bokeh !
I'ts real lenses, not DIY like a lens + anamorphic projector lens.
I got the FF58 /FF38 /FF88 with a x2 Anamophic with fixe f:3.5 aperture, EF mount.
a demo of thoses lenses here:

This guy can make a 25 minutes video talking only on a lens...a real geek !
I love him, and love his lenses !

Hey thanks guys! I will check properly all your links! Just the other day i went in several camera shop looking for some nice vintage lens to pair with an anamorphic adapter!
Ideally, what i am looking for it would be a 24/28mm anamorphic lens or an adapter that would work with a 24mm lens. i am looking to obtain a 2.50:1 aspect ratio or something near that kind of aspect ratio. Unfortuantely, 2.35:1 "does not cut it" enough for me! :D
This link have some usefull information about shooting anamorphic with a dslr

Heeeey! Just noticed somebody linked my website! hahahah
I've been doing reviews for "cheaper" solutions when it comes to anamorphic adapters compared to full blown anamorphic cine lenses, and always shoot using MagicLantern RAW, so maybe I can help you with specific questions! Feel free to ask!
and subscribe if you haven't yet: youtube.com/tferradans :)
Hey! Nice meeting you mr. Ferrandas! :) I believe i posted the link to your website before reading the Magic Lantern chapter on your guide.
Thank you very much for your help! And thank you for your availability. At the moment i am shooting mostly with a Kowa 2x. I am quite lucky as its minimal focus distance is "only" 1.2m therefore no need for a diopter in close up! :)
Thanks, man! The kowa is a pretty great lens, I have one myself and wouldn't let it go for anything. :)

Just curious if you managed to make your version of the cinemorph filter for the rear element? If so, do you have any test footage? I am also looking to find an anamorphic filter solution for my Canon EF 24-105 lens, and an option for wider focal lengths would be awesome!
no.
In the end I bought a kowa b&h and few clamps from redstan. I cam for the bokeh and the flares but I stayed for the chromatic aberrations and the barrel distortion.
