Title: Magic Lantern RAW In The Snow
Post by: paulheran on May 13, 2015, 07:29:42 AM
Chris, Gared, and I explored some terrain off the Castle Peak exit on Donner Summit. The snow was a little heavy, but still one of the funnest days I've had in recent history. Great times with these pals. Thank you ML team for RAW!

Canon 5D MKIII - Magic Lantern RAW
1080 24p - Davinci Resolve - Premiere Pro CC.

Any questions? Feel free to hit me up! I'd love some feedback on colors. I'm a newbie in Resolve..

@paulheran:

Love how the colors came out despite NOT using a flat log (unless you did?) and I wonder how much more DR you could probably gain by using Cinelog-C LUTS from @Andy600 -- check them out and you would be happy with his products (as I am) and won't be disappointed.

Next time you do a sunset setting (i.e. last clip) try with Dual-ISO in 3x crop mode.  ;)

Which OS are you running with Resolve?

Thanks again for sharing your work!

@DeafEyeJedi Thank you for the response!

I shot this video last December, and had no idea about the flat log. I actually just found out now that you mentioned it. I'll have to look into the Cinelog-C LUTS and Dual-ISO. Very excited to try both.

I am running 10.10.3 for Resolve 11 Lite. Seems to work ok, playback is not great.

@paulheran great video Paul! Colors were spot on. I would love to see a quick breakdown for your color grade. I often struggle with gettin such vibrant colors while keeping the individual colors true as well as such clean whites. Especially in the skin tones.

Also looking forward to seeing your dual ISO results. Thanks!

What lens(es) did you shoot with? What was the audio like? Too low to record so you had to have the soundtrack on top?

Only got a Canon 6d last week and ML yesterday. Have never really shot video except for point & shoot snippets. Looking forward trying my hand at it.
