Title: "2 Cops 2 - Official Teaser Trailer" 3:43 // T2i
Post by: Retrogrand on January 04, 2015, 01:24:59 AM

2 Cops 2 was created as an entry into a monthly short film festival with the theme 'Sequels'. We originally began writing it as an over-the-top, straight to DVD style buddy-cop movie, but it slowly morphed into something a little more subtle.

The joke is "what if a screenwriter didn't know (or didn't care) that you needed two distinct personalities to make a buddy-cop film interesting. And what if somehow this bland and generic idea got blindly greenlit by a studio. And what if they made a sequel."

So here is the "official teaser trailer" for a film that, thankfully, doesn't and never will exist.

Edited and graded in Premiere Pro CC. Footage was shot with Cinestyle at 1080/24. Scenes composed with ML Cinemascope crops and added boxing in Premiere. This gave us some freedom to do vertical camera moves in post easily without having to upscale.

Shot with a Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8, with a mix of monopod and tripod shots. Most of the camera movements (besides the longer dolly and pedestals) were done in post by upscaling. "Suit Up" scene was lit with a 40W incandescent clamp light on a boom, with a butcher paper snoot to kill background spill and to warm. Same light (minus snoot) was used for the garage scene. All other lighting was either practical or from a cheap 130 LED panel (such as in the car and outside garage).

Audio was captured using an NTG-2 on a boom and an H4n, but it was our first time using that set up and we had an inexperienced friend as the operator so background noise was a bit heavy.

Lots of props.

Hardest part was both starring and shooting, which meant a lot of help from friends and crossing fingers.

Nice job. And interesting theme for a film comp. Music was suited and I also liked the tag line "double justice". I "lol'd" at that.

Thanks beanz!

Our intent was to make it feel as Hollywood as we could without it becoming so cliche that it was silly: an absurd premise delivered straight-faced.

The film competition (Instant Gratification Movie Challenge) is intended to keep people in a creative mindset by giving them a theme and venue to produce something, anything, every month. Helps you from getting stuck or procrastinating in the search for the "perfect" project. Themes are usually very vague and open to interpretation (or you can ignore them all together). It's all in service of kindling creativity, experimentation, and creation.

They are open to submissions from anyone, not just locals: http://monthlymoviechallenge.com/about

And the organizers also host a travelling, international film festival: http://gadaboutfilmfest.com/

I think the introduction of "Woods" is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. It's like seeing David Cross for the first time!

That guy needs to get in touch with P.T. Anderson...

"I'm a private eye now!"

That line... said by absoLUTELY the wrong person! hahahahahahahahha :D

Wow... This really reminds me of Steve Buscemi playing the role of "Ultimate Badass Mafia Assassin" in "Things to do in Denver When You're Dead."

That opens up SO many possibilities... Like a Super Heavyweight ranked and sanctioned bought between this HUGE guy and some skinny 13 year old kid who you don't see until the camera cut...

Rainless... wow... thank you so much. I'm humbled that my film even brought P.T. Anderson to your mind, as he is one of our favorite directors/writers.

It feels great that my art resonated with you. Makes the world seem a little less lonely to know there are people with the same sensibilities as me.

Cheers!
