I'm trying to plan out my next purchase. Im looking for a sharp lens that is a zoom. I've been looking at the Tamron 24-70 with VC(aka IS)to help out with run and gun type shooting. I do mostly concert/take away show shooting but would like to venture into short film work.
Here is what I have:
Canon T3i wth ML
Sandisk 32gb class 10
Rode video mic
Basic 72inch tripod with pistol grip and quick release.
Canon Lenses
Canon 18-55 II IS
Canon 50mm f1.4
Vintage Nikkor full manual lenses
24mm f2.8
35mm f2
50mm f2
105mm f2.5
Any advice would be great. I don't have mo eyes right now to buy something. This will be a "save up to buy the right thing" purchase. :-)
Thanks!
I find the 24-105L pretty good as a run'n'gun lens for weddings & events. The only limitation is the max. aperture of f/4, which might be kinda slow in certain situations, but I usually manage to get a good exposure at ISO 1600. Previously I had the 24-70L but decided to replace it with the 24-105L due to the lack of stabilization.
The Tamron 24-70 seems to be quite good (2.8 and IS), though I haven't tried it.
yeah.. for $1300 the Tamron 24-70 f2.8 with IS seems REALLY tempting. I do a lot of hand held shooting... almost all of my shooting actually. With that lens on my T3i it would be like having a 40-115 f2.8 with IS on a 5d in terms of viewing angle.
I've heard mixed reviews on the 24-105L about not being a consistent lens... meaning if you have 3 of them each one will look different. And also that its not very sharp for what it is. Unless I could get a 24-105L for like $400-500 i'd probably rather the 24-70
