Title: transfer rate of 5d3 ML raw files
Post by: anandkamal on November 06, 2014, 11:13:20 AM
hi, sorry if this is a basic question and i do not know this. Data rate of dslr is 50Mbps, prores 220Mbps, R3D is 150 MB/s, Cdng from blackmagic is also the same. But I wanted to know what is the data rate of cdng from 5d3 mlv files? In other words, in what rate should the transfer of 5d3 mlv cdngs files be, into an editing software for real time playback? thanks

depending on your framerate and resolution.

1920x1080 is about 3.5 MB per frame

so 3.5 MB x 24 fps = 84 MB/s Read/Write speed

ok thank you bro.. hope 85Mb/s is 5d3 raw's (or mlv's) and not dslr's 1920X1080 (h.264)

It also depends on the type of CDNGs output by whatever MLV converter you're using. Some converters use 16bit or 12 bit, and some can output compressed CDNGs. Best way to find out is to simply look at the size of a converted CDNG file for the particular resolution you're using and multiply that by the framerate.
