Title: Campaign Commercial shot on 7d Raw
Post by: N/A on November 02, 2014, 09:43:09 PM

Shot in crop mode 1080p with the sigma 30 1.4 and vocals done with the on-camera mic. Rendered out of AE as 4444 XQ into FCPX, edited, then back to AE for a bit of denoise and grading with one of the Osirus LUT's.

There are some issues there...

1. You should have used a lavalier: There's noticeable echo coming from whatever mic you're using. a lapel mic would've been closer to the subject's mic. Failing that you could've had him handhold a dynamic mic.
2. Poor use of lighting. His points are valid but he comes off looking like a cheap crook. Since this is obviously a run-and-gun thing you could've had a simple led off to one side, or since there was ample street lighting you could've gotten away with a reflector.
3. Very, very soft focus.
4. Shaky image. Obviously if the option were available you would've used a tripod, but even without one you could use the image stabilization feature in your NLE to just crop out some of the image and keep what's in the middle.

Not trying to come off as harsh... but if someone's political career is on the line, it might be worth telling him that he'd be better off reshooting.

Problem is, the election is only a few days away, so to say it was a rush job is an understatement lol. The shotgun mic batteries were dead, my Rokinon cine needs to be repaired and a monopod was all I had in my car. So we both understood the downsides, but any publicity is good publicity  ;)

In that case: WHIMSICAL MUSIC! :)

Put either the Ringling Bros. music or the theme song to The Jeffersons behind him and you're all good!

Lol right? It was a cool experience and fun project though, and since politics are so controversial it leaves LOTS of room for creativity.
