So one of my clips is a .dat file. From what I can see on the internet it seems either the cam died during recording or the batt door was opened before the file was completed. Is there a free Mac Application that can repair this for me. When using http://aeroquartet.com app it seems to see that it can be repair and does show me the correct image. But... they want $99.... any help would be great. Thank you for your time.
Two things id try:
Quicktime (Make sure Perian tool is installed, its a swiss army knife of codecs for Quicktime), open the file, if you get an invalid file try 2nd thing ill add. If the file opens and plays, use quicktime to export it, i highly recommend Quicktime 7 pro as it has much better export settings than Quicktime that is now standard.
2nd thing to try, VLC, and same as above ^
EDIT-UPDATE: Also try changing the .dat to .mov, iv done that a couple o'times n its worked, not always though.

This has happened to me in an event shooting where cam B's battery grip was somewhat faulty and every time there was a big bump on the monopod the camera would shut down.I reckon at least 30 mins of recording were thought to be lost inside these dat files.Fortunately there is a fix that worked for me 100%.Read this.

See I tried that and I know it only says 50% but for some reason it only outputs a 1 sec file. The image is there but only 1 sec long. The .dat file is about 2.5gig and that program only outputs a 1mb file.
I will try the quicktime idea tonight and try to find that plug in. I have tried renaming it to .mov but quicktime just says it can't play it.
