Title: D800 - why does no one use it for video?
Post by: bendep on April 17, 2014, 04:06:16 PM
Strong first post:

Question's in the title. I'm coming as a photographer (using Fuji, and used to be canon but sold all my glass) to the filmmaking world and about to invest in either a 5d MK3 or a D800 to shoot short cinematic films, and was wondering why no one uses the D800? Looking at all of the online comparisons the D800 looks pretty damn good (apart from lowlight but i rarely shoot that) and better than the 5D iii out of the camera. Is it just because of the ML wizards turning the 5D into something next level? Ive heard that some people are making a ML equivalent for Nikon - thoughts? The D800 is arguably a better stills camera...

Cheers for input peeps!

Ben

Yeah, i've seen it, obviously. My question was even though hacks are coming out why are no videographers using the D800; whilst looking through dslr filmed cinematic clips on Vimeo, all of them that i have seen are shot with the 5d ii/iii. My question was essentially why is this.

Thanks,

Ben

 - Video on DSLR was Canon's "Killer" app. They basically owned the market from the start and got quite a huge lead until the recent days
