Title: [request] Variable White Balance in the same photo/frame?
Post by: Brawl on April 03, 2014, 07:35:10 PM
If the lens can tell to the camera the distance of the subject could it be possible to set two different white balance in the same photo/frame?

I mean maybe I could use "cold" white balance for everything is very distant (mountains, sea,) and I could use in the same pic "warm" white balance for everything is very close to me (subject like people, close buildings, etc, etc...).

thx!

p.s.
My camera is the 7D if you need I could do some beta testing.
I imagine something like this (different colors from close to far). maybe those examples are not really rappresentative sorry.

* No. Whitebalance is a property of the whole picture, not of separated pixels/sensels.
* if you're talking about background and frontscene in a 2d picture, you talk about a depthmap or simpler masking.
No.
* could be able to save two measured whitebalance-values, but i assume, there's no tif-tag for a second metadata like this, neither in cr2 nor in dng.
* Finally you would do the job manually, as it was before..

do it in post, it's easy to do. impossible/no-reason to do it in camera

ACR has a gradient tool and you can apply any settings you want as a gradient to the image (including white balance), other options would be developing the photo twice with your raw editor once with each different white balance you choose and then blending the two images via a mask.
