Title: [WONTFIX] built-in assist beam for 60D ?
Post by: Karim on March 13, 2014, 12:06:06 AM
use the little orange lamp that blink while timer count, I have no idea about coding but you give a command to the lamp to fire up while auto focusing, this feature is already available in some nikon's so I think it's easy to make, sorry for the bad English i hope you understand me well  :)

Pretty sure that little orange light would only be useful for very close subjects.

Thinking about it further, I doubt it would be useful at all.

That light has a large spread pattern.  It is also lacking in power.

So, at close focus distances, the lens would block a significant proportion of the light, and it doesn't have enough power to create sufficient contrast for AF at longer focus distances.

yeah it would probably help like 0.001% at best

if you have two cameras, take a picture with one while the light on the other one is on (and the cameras are in close proximity) and show us the difference it actually makes.
