Title: BEEP on Focus for Manual Lenses
Post by: dubzeebass on March 02, 2014, 10:32:16 PM
Hi folks,

So we can use the DIGIC to sharpen the in-focus part of the image, and we can use Focus Peaking to see what is in focus. Is there a way to have the camera beep in photo mode when part of the image under the focus box is in focus? This would remove the need for focus confirmation chips (at least in LV as I understand this wouldn't likely be possible using the OVF).

Is this possible? Focus confirm via ML?

It's already on Magic Zoom; might be interesting to have it decoupled from MZ, because focus is already reported by Canon firmware (so there's no CPU usage).

But its accuracy is not exactly the best (it's a heuristic heavily influenced by exposure and contrast).

Still likely a hell of a lot more accurate than our eyes!
