Title: 1100D fir where?
Post by: colt on January 24, 2014, 10:58:20 PM
Hi,

Sorry for dumb question, but i cannot move forward : i cannot find the right FIR file for my 1100D.
I have upgraded it for 1.0.5, but when i download the nightly ML build which supports 1100D, there isn't a FIR file in the package.

Where can i get it? Should i use it from an another ML release, or the original Canon?

Thanks for any help :)

I hope this will help you out:

Step 1: Download the RC3 here (old version, includes .fir file):
http://nanomad.magiclantern.fm/1100D/magiclantern-v2.3.1100D.RC3.zip.

Step 2: Extract the RC3 files to the SD card.

Step 3: Download the nightly build, extract it to the SD card to replace the old build and click "Yes" if your OS asks about overwriting files.
Then just install Magic lantern using firmware update.

No don't do it that way, you'll get an error. After step 2 run the installation, then update the files on the card to the latest nightly after the installation is complete.

Hi,

The FIR from the 2.3 and the files from the nightly build are working like a charm :) Thanks!

Should i leave the fir file on the card?

Oh I'm sorry. That way of installing Magic lantern has always worked for me, but it maybe does not work on all 1100Ds.

Is anyone intrested in a vdeo tutorial ( If so i can make one, where i'll be doing it coreectly). There seem to be a lot of confusion about installing ML on the 1100D.
I saw one but that did not update from RC3.

The issue is that there is a new fonts backend and the old fonts.dat was removed. The installer checks for fonts.data and if its not there, it will give an error. The install actually works I think, but I just tell people to install with RC3 then update to the nightly so they wont complain about the error. At some point somebody should regenerate all the .fir files to not check, but I don't have that capability. The .fir file is the actual hack 'vector' for ML and requires more than basic code knowledge (which is all I have) to generate.

Not a bad idea just in case you ever need to uninstall ML, but it is not necessary to run ML.

Thx! I just asked that what happens when i accidentally format the card or something. But i think then i copy back the files and it will be OK.
