Title: ML Digital ISO optimum setting?
Post by: eco_bach1 on September 22, 2012, 11:40:32 PM
Hi

The help menu recommends setting the Canon digital ISO to always be 0.
But can any ML experts share info on the 'best' setting for ML digital ISO?

How do I obtain the ISO's of 160, 320, 640, 1250 for lowest noise?

Are these obtained when the 'Equivalent ISO' equals these values?
OR
Are these obtained when the 'Canon analog ISO' equals these values?

ok read this
http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/ISO#Then.2C_what_is_the_best_ISO.3F

but would still like a confirmation
Also, I think the article, though informative, has a lot of assumptions and is not 100% accurate

ie enabling HTP will give you slightly more highlite detail, but to the best of my knowledge, will have no benefit in the shadows.

Anyone care to comment?

From my experience the best setting is ML negative ISO (-0.3 or so), no canon digital ISO. (HTP on if the dynamic range is too high). The equivalent ISO is computed from Analog ISO * Canon ISO gain * ML ISO gain (not really a multiplication but you should get the idea). If you manually select an equivalent ISO ML will auto-select the closest Analog * Canon ISO pair.
