In the next few weeks we will ask our visitors on what tasks we should prioritize.
We have limited development capacity and we let the community decide which route we should go next.
First we'd like to know what next camera to add to the Magic Lantern tree?
You can Vote on the download page.
5dmk3!!
I definitely would donate again for that!
1000d is half-ported and has LV so most ML features should work on it. I got the ground work out of the way a while ago :D

I think the 1000D/1100D would indeed be good to go, as these are affordable for the new blood :) of course no fancy "we provide anything for the über-professionals", still it's great when young and "poor" people have something useful to work with somehow.
Personally, I'm not interested in any of the new Canon Cameras, I'd like to see a teaming with the GH2... :)
Just read that the 650D has clean HDMI out, making it even more useful :)

With or without black bars?
No black bars visible on the sample shown at C5D, however they do mention some issues (no further details specified).
I can't speak for the 1000D, but as far as the 1100D goes, it is actually a crippled 600D (or 650D, can't remember) with a lower res sensor and limited HD recording capability. In fact, almost everything works on it.
The issue, as has been stated previously, is the strange display resolution (too low and with weird aspect ratio) that makes hard to read stuff on screen....
I guess 1100D's weird aspect low res screen would make it a good candidate for ML enhancement, that is providing a better font to read!
I donated some money towards 5D III development. I do wish that, perhaps, someone from the development team could set up a donation page with so called "bounty" amounts for certain features as well as certain models, for example, the 5D Mark III. As bounty amounts are met (or not), The Magic Lantern project could prioritize development milestones appropriately, and businesses could more easily donate money by funding specific bounties.
sounds like 1100d has the same screen (or similar, low quality one) as the 5dc, maybe some of the same things being used on the 5dc could help the 1100d.
I can´t find any way to vote on the download side.
Anyway, I guess many people will like it if you always support the newest models. Actually the 5d martk3 and 650d.
But also many people don´t want to buy a new model every year. I think it would be good first to work on the existing models to make it perfect and then ...
On the other side the new models may give you ideas how to solve older prolbems like the audio on the 600d - as long as you don´t forget the older ones I´m fine with you working on the latest products. Just go on like you did before ... great! :)
So far each new port is an addition not a substitute for old camera, so I see no problems in having more camera supported, as already said new port can also be useful for other ports. more camera support will mean more dev interested also. I'm hoping 650D has the same audio chip of 600D (maybe also 5D3 why not?) another audio chip on those camera would not be so nice.
Having audio support on all camera capable would be great.
Yea, even the monitoring. The Pre-Amp may suck but I have a different one that takes XLR input and I think I could get "acceptable" results. Cannon wasn't too nice switching the IC if it has the same or worse performance than 550D.

http://www.cinema5d.com/news/?p=12021 (http://www.cinema5d.com/news/?p=12021)
I have a t4i in front of me and the HDMI out is not clean when recording. I don't know if it's clean otherwise. If anyone would like me to test, let me know. I have an Aja kipro I can test with. I would love it if the HDMI could be made clean on the t3i. That would be the best of all things, given that it has the 3x factor in video mode (t4i does NOT have this anymore).

It is really annoying how Canon has crippled 1100D video functionality, they could have given us at least 24p! And also 1080p, but if that had happened there would be no reason to buy a 600D instead...
MagicLantern will be extremely useful for 1100D, so I think it should be given some priority for now:
Since the camera is limited to 720p, we'll need to set the bitrate as high as possible, since we need all the quality and less compression as possible, because everything will get magnified when playing in fullscreen or a HDTV. It also helps to maintain quality in order to sharpen and remove noise from the image on post processing later, otherwise we get extremely blurry videos.
When shooting in 1080p you can get off with some compression artifacts, but at 720p they get too obvious, specially on noisy scenes, where you'll get giant blocks of happy digital rainbow in darkened areas.
I would love to see 650D get ML and if the issues with the "clean hdmi out" could be sorted, but i guess since 5dm3 has the same processor? that one would be just as good to start on and later port it to 650D which hopefully would'nt be to much of a hassle (but what do i know :)). If the hdmi out could be "fixed" to actually get a pure 1080 signal out would be sort of a gamechanger, especially on a lowbudget camera as 650D is.
good day, I would like an upgrade for my old lady would 450d luxury hopefully someone else has this desire would be nice
The 450D is running VXWorks as the 5DC and 400d so it may be tricky :(
I've just read the awesome specs of the Canon EOS M mirrorless camera. It's specs are so close to the 60D/650D. It would be fantastic if ML could push the framerate up since there's no mirror flapping about.
my 550d can work on it well lol
EOS M and 5D mrkIII
Have to say EOS M is litterally 550D without the mirror, viewfinder, allot of button and added a touchscreen.
Just too bad they left out the flipout screen but probably done that just to be able to upgrade to something in the next version or just to keep the price low or just so it would not compete with the 650D too much.
Canon does supply an EF to EF-M adapter, so one probably could even use ones EF lenses with the EOS M. Interesting...
According to Canon, the EOS-M doesn't seem to have any video length limit - you are only limited by the size of the card you use (for example with a 16gb card you can record roughly around 40 mins. of footage).
Still hit the 4gb problem though unless you use sxhc which it can also use. 16gb is rougly 48min. 4gb is 12min.
Eye fi compatible!

DSLRs also use SDHC but there's still the 4gb limit. If you're referring to SDXC cards, I haven't seen any which are less than 64gb, and this isn't the case since Canon specifically stated that "
Continuous shooting can last up to 44 minutes on a 16 GB memory card".

The time contraints depend on what file system you format the card.

Can the Canon M read NTFS or extended FAT32?
EOS M :)
donated and praying for 1100D (T3) version ::)
I think there are many users who have 350D, 400D, 450D and 40D.
This equipment has been discontinued but are still in the drawers of many millions of Canon customers.
Over time these became obsolete equipment. Many of its users would like to use them to make their first tests with ML. On the other hand, might serve to improve the potential of its old cameras. In many cases, they could use them to perform some types of photography that do not allow your new equipment. Thus they avoided damaging your most valuable equipment. Because they are equipment with a lower cost, it is normal that there are many. By supporting these models would benefit a greater number of users.
Developers to work on these models can also acquire useful knowledge to support the latest and most advanced models.
Quoteextended FAT32?
it probably uses exfat. NTFS in embedded things isn't likely.
400D has 400Plus, no point to put ML on it.

+1.
Although i wanted Canon to make it a bit better since mirrorless cameras are available since quite a bit now.
This would be the first ML camera to accept virtually any lens made.

I definitely would donate again for that!

I'd be very happy to donate again if there was a specific fund set up to develop ML for Mk 3.
The Mk 3 has some great improvements over Mk 2 but the ML features in v. 2.3 would really bring it to a new level.
Hope there's some more news on this soon.

1100d :)
I bought my 550D and will be happy with it for a while. (and any future purchase will probably depend on it's ML compatibility)
But I have a friend who recently purchased a 1100D, I didn't tell him about ML yet as there is no stable port. I think enabling ML for lower end cameras would greatly help newcomers, art students, and others. Especially since those cameras lack most features (newer camera have audio levelling and other nice features already).
Of course why focusing on old hardware that is to be abandoned by canon and the user eventually can be questioned. I just think that lower end cameras aren't only used by people without skill but also by people without money. The 1100D port is on it's way already, so maybe the EOS M, 5DmkIII or 650D next.
They all use the same processor, so I see those being part of a new generation of ML. But maybe I'm foreseeing too much without actual knowledge ^^
Hi developer team!
Please add the 650D next.
I think newcomers like me with this model would appreciate the use of Magic Lantern most.
Thanks!
Thomas
P.S. Of course I've voted for the 650D ;-)
1100D/T3 would make an excellent 'newbie' cam, or indeed could be picked up cheaply and used to experiment on.

Hi! I have a 60D and I love how ML works on it, have yet to try the 2.3 version though.
Also, I just bought a 650D as a backup body and I was hoping it could also have ML sometime soon. I hope Canon releases the much needed firmware update (so they can fix the HDMI issues and also return 3x factor) :P
Please work on getting a stable ML Version for the t4i. Can you manipulate the length of time you can record for in video mode because I would love to have the 29 min 59 seconds extended even further so I can use it as a locked down shot for weddings that would record start to finish?
5D mk 3 please!
5D Mk1 please, please, please! :)
5d classic please! although looking at the poll i guess if it happens it will be a while :/
hello my fellow friends of ML,
i've come to ask you nicely to start developing on ony digic 5 cam since the results should be easily portable to other cams of this "family".
I own a 650D and therefore would like to see ML running on this cam as soon as possible :)
the vote as been open now for ca. 2 months which should give a resonable average on users' needs.
to conclude the poll:
51,4 % (650D + 5D3) of all votes are for a digic 5 port of ML, prior of adding new features :)
sure, i would support the "more features gang" if i had a cam already running ML...
but please, open the door for lots of new users and potential devs by supporting new models.
best regards
peet
7D please...
650D aka T4i please!

Feature request:
When you have the built in flash up to have pressing the flash button again bring up canon "built in flash function settings" menu
Thanks a lot for the awesome firmware it beats anything canon (or nikon or anyone else) ever put out.
Use the features request section ::)
Sorry didn't relize it was a separate section just found it thanks for pointing me in the right direction (I'm now checking if someone requested it already as per forum rules)

7D please! After three years of waiting... :P
I want ML on my 650D :'(( thx for your great work's
I would say more collabertation on the 40D front (things learned from that could help future advancements, and increase camera support for cameras released with the same tech as the 40D).
also getting a stable 7D release is probably a good thing.
on a related note, what other bodys share the same internal design as the 7D?
7D would be great :D
1dx
EOS 650D, EOS M, EOS 6D. In that order, or whenever we might see updates.
Anyone owning the 60Da camera? Is it similar to 60D except for the filter in front of the sensor?
There are some great cameras in the older 1D lineup, which might be interesting to look at. They are selling over here roughly at the same price, or slightly more expensive than the 5d2:s on the second hand market...
I think that Magic Lantern should prodly comemorate the achievement of finally having been able to onlock the 7D. So I guess that 7D support should be the very next implementation. After waiting for 3 years, I´m sure it would be much apreciated by a wide number of donners and ML devotees. :D
Please give us ML for the 1D-X ! With clean HDMI out and 4K 24p/25p/30p video.
Now that you have overcome the problem with dual digic processors (7D) and you have ML running on the 5D3 (digic5),
I hope ML on the 1D-X will be possible soon.
I would gladly donate more (much) money for this to happen.
5D3 first and 7D second. I own both

nonsense :)
I should be getting my EOS M within the next week, and I plan to have ML started on that well before canon releases a firmware update.
plan:
- use 5d3 dump (both cameras have Digic5) to map the bootloader functions for reading / writing the bootflag (like the method I had to use for the 5dc).
- blindly find the matching functions in the EOS M bootloader (all i need to do is find the LED address [brute force method]).
- check a few lines near cstart and verify that the boot code is identical to the 5d3 (expecting it to be).
- apply boot code to EOS M like it's done on the 5d3
It's like a challenge / game for me :)
Good luck man!
The Canon Eos 1Dx would be fine with ML
the 1dx is out of reach for 90% of ml users due to its price
650D
If the 5D MkIII works on the same processor, I hope the progress on the Mk III helps progress on the 650D.
My buddy / photography student, who was envious of my 500D, just acquired an 1100D at a great price. He would love to get "The Hack" running on it :)
In my humble opinion, one that is picking up dust on the shelf of our friend b4rt... 650D

Maybe a little rude to come on here and suggest, but I'd love to see some ML guys jumping onboard the Sony NEX 5n - being capable of 60p 1080, there is talk and wishes for 120fps 720p...
A hacker has just cracked into the sony encryption and posted an unpacker yesterday:-
http://www.nex-hack.com/topic/1125-second-wave-firmware-decryption/
this is huge news. It took a lot of donations for a few different cameras to be bought but Someone1.00 has finally done it:)
Wait for a week - if Sony doesn't say anything, that's good news ;)

:D
Well, they didn't actually produce anything useful *yet*. It will probably take more than a week
I don't think this will impact on sony profits, if anything It might go towards boosting their consumer imaging division. in which case I doubt they will bother taking any action. wasn't the ps3 issue down to pirated games? assuming someone created a software patch allowing overclocking of the ps3 I imagine it wouldn't have been such an issue. same thing with the cameras.
Then again, with their consumer approach, releasing a replacement model every year they probably don't wish to have their older models remaining competitive against the newer models. I'd like it if it forced them into a way of working where the model released 1 year before wasnt just blatantly disregarded in favour of selling a gimmic filled replacement at double the price of the last. Ie. I can still buy a 550D from a official retailer (3 years after its release) and it is still relevant and compatible with new accessories. Canon may release an update once a year but this is the point -Canon's new releases are additions to the range, rather than complete replacements as with Sony's release structure.
650D please.
Locking, the other poll is better and has far more answers ::)
